I wonder if the Cubs know they have Felix Pie sitting on the bench, or they just have completely forgot about him. I remember there was a who was the worst corner outfielder thread a couple weeks ago, and Monroe was my choice, his OBP is a thing of laughs.

Edit-On the bright side as a Cub fan you can say Hendry bought low on him, and they probably gave absolutely nothing for him other than taking on his salary, at least I would hope.

Detroit's paying some salary too. If they just use him as a PH against lefties to compliment Ward against right-handers, I could see it working out somewhat.

Tigers are still paying most of his salary.

Move doesn't surprise me a ton as a Cubs fan, despite the abundance of OFers they already have. He's a right-handed bat, with some power, who is hitting over .300 against LHP this year...something the Cubs offense has had issues with. He had a career year last year and gained some postseason experience that the Cubs could use if all goes well the rest of the year.

In short, low risk, potentially high-reward.

The Pirates want Monroe as part of the Wilson deal to Detroit. And why didn't Detroit do this?

A miracle has happened. A GM makes a dumber move then Littlefield.

I don't really understand why the Tigers are doing it. Sheffield just went down and even with Ordonez having a fantastic season, that offense is still mediocre.

I don't get why Detroit does that trade either.

when did there offense become mediocre? they're a top 5 offense and have the 2nd most runs in the big leagues.

Why did Detroit do this?

These are his monthly batting averages...

April .193
May .280
June .195
July .209
August .217

And he hasn't had an OBP over .240 since May.

They flat out just wanted to get rid of Craig Monroe...period. If he would've been picked up by some team on waivers they would've been fine with that. At least they're getting something, anything for him with this move. Dude was having a horrible year and he was progressively getting worse. He was a K waiting to happen. Plain and simple, they just wanted his bat out of the lineup and with Maybin waiting in the wings, they had zero intentions of keeping C-Mo on the roster next season.

:waaa: Why must the cubs mishandle every top prospect that comes through their system?
