Very few quality starters will be available this winter

We came across a National League general manager the other day who was perusing his handy-dandy roster of this winter's free-agent starting pitchers.

Let's just say it wasn't up there with "Harry Potter" on his list of uplifting summer reading.

"You look at this list," he said, "and you can get it confused with the six-year [minor league] free-agent list."

That, by the way, is not a compliment.

I think the Glavine option is interesting. I don't know if he has the stamina to make it through a full-season attacking 9 hitters a game as opposed to 8. But Atlanta could be the favorites in the NL east next year if they were to get him back.

I think the Astros should go after Prior, Colon, Wolf, Shilling, and Matt Clement.

You can't quote an entire article like that. Quote a few paragraphs and leave the link for the rest.

Did it for ya... feel free to re-edit if there's something in the article you want to point out.

The high-end contracts being given to free agents are pushing teams to lock up most of the decent pitching options out there. It should make for some interesting bidding if and when Johan Santana is on the trade market next season.

Why don't they go after Arod, Bonds, Fransisco Cordero and Tori Hunter too while they are at it.

I'm sure the Astros could convince the Cardinals to put Pujols on Waivers as well...

I'd like the Yankees to take a chance on Prior but I realize it won't happen.

Unlike Soriano we are getting our money's worth with our free-agent.

Money's worth on a bad team that is going no where.

Soriano at least has a chance to help his team make the playoffs. We can't say the same about Fat Lee.

AJ what was our record last year?
And what is our record this year?
The money we spent this offseason is paying off.

Our team sucks as a whole. But Lee is doing the best. If we were in contention he would be apart of the MVP dicussion. Cant say the same about Soriano

Umm, we are 1st in the division your team is in
Cubs: 65-61
Astros: 57-71

And although Lee is a great hitter he is only hitting .305 this year. He has also grounded into 21 double plays which is a rally killer.

our divison sucks. if we had clemens and pettitte we would kill that divison thats how weak it is. (even pittsburgh is 10 games out.)

only .305, his average is better than last years at this point. and so what if he grounds into double plays, if we get runners on base, he can drive them in. Soriano has been a bust at this point. injury and all. (what bout the 40-40 soriano we all came to know and love) hell ill settle for 20-20

Lee: 8 (Caught Stealing 5 times)
Soriano: 18 (Caught Stealing 5 Times)

Hits:
Lee 151
Soriano 132
(Remember Lee has played in every game this year)

Extra Base Hits:
Lee 63
Soriano 54

Triples:
Lee 1
Soriano 5

Doubles:
Lee 36
Soriano 31

Hits:
Lee 151

(Remember Lee has played in every game this year)

Lee has the edge

Lee 63
Soriano 54

Triples:
Lee 1
Soriano 5
