1. HGH wasn't illegal in baseball in 2004.

2. HGH has shown no way to help baseball players. Read, learn, have fun.

Also, funny how this "huge" story comes out on the day he has 2 HR and 7 RBI, just saying.

Bonds/McGwire etc haven't been on HGH since baseball banned it, but that doesn't seem to help their case.

What happens when people realize taking HGH supplements helps you live a longer, healthier life? Will athletes be allowed to use it then?

The Daily News has won multiple Pulitzers. And unlike a lot of shady Internet reporting, this story names names and offers up fairly specific details. I'd bet the story is essentially correct.

The question is what to make of it. According to the story, Ankiel had a doctor's prescription to take HGH, and he stopped receiving HGH before it was banned by MLB. So unless there is more to the story than has been reported so far, he didn't break any rules.

Also, as has been pointed out there is uncertainty as to whether HGH poses any long-term health consequences, or whether it does anything significant to enhance athletic performance. Which calls into question why MLB would need to ban HGH.

As it stands, this story is a far cry from steroids/Barry Bonds et al.

Well, I think it's probably related to the Rodney Harrison story. I believe they have the same source.

Doesn't HGH help recovery time? That would help an athlete tremendously, and even if there aren't muscle building benefits (which there are mixed reports on) the recovery benefits would help any athlete who would like to reduce aches and pains.

It would be beneficial to all athletes that would like to have their muscles recover. With that said he allegedly had it in 2004 when it wasn't a banned substance so I don't see what's wrong with that, as long as it isn't/wasn't banned you can't really knock a guy for it.

Well this is part of a bigger story. I guess his doctor placed phony prescribtions to a number of athletes. Rodney Harrison is also involved, as is the Steelers trainer and Cowboys QB coach. I could be wrong but from what I've heard they are all part of the same sting.
