Longtime GM John Schuerholz is reportedly stepping down after 17 seasons with the Atlanta Braves.

According to various media reports, Schuerholz is handing over the reins to top assistant Frank Wren. Schuerholz took over as GM in 1990 and the team won 14 straight division titles before struggling the past two seasons.

Wow... great GM from the engineering of homegrown talent to FA's, etc... Any other NL East team should be glad to see him go. One of the best GM's in baseball for sure

If the HoF ever opens their wings for administrators other than owners, he'd get my vote.

Isn't he the President of the Braves now? And isn't he suppose to be one of the candidates for commissioner once Selig steps down?

This is pretty much a shocker to everyone in Atlanta. Even the players. I thought he'd be around for at least another year or two. Leaving when Cox left. I heard him on the radio a couple of days ago talking about off season moves so this definitely caught me by surprise.

Last week the AJC reported that JS was going to stay on for another season. I've never trusted the new ownership and maybe JS feels they aren't as serious as they act.
