Leo Mazzone, who came to the Orioles with a reputation as one of the best pitching coaches in the modern era, was fired Friday after only two seasons in that role.

"I spoke with Leo today and told him I appreciated his efforts here," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said in a statement. "Moving forward, I felt that we would be better served with someone else working with our young staff and that it was in his best interests and our best interests to give him an opportunity to look elsewhere now."

Stupid move by Baltimore IMO.

And if he couldnt get Daniel Cabrera straight, who can?

Dnaiel Cabrera's inalienable mediocrity cost Mazzone his job.

Thats just one of the many reasons. atleast the rays TRY and build for the future. the O's just get a big-name free agent every few years in hopes that hell turn out to be 50hr 150rbi guy who can carry them. which NOONE can. and they never build a good pitching staff. . steve trachsel?!?!? chad bradford at 12mil?!?!?

just a horribly run franchis eand i love it, have fun in baltimore Andruw!!

He's just a pitching coach.

Oriole fans can sleep knowing the guy they gave up to sign Mazzone, Moises Hernandez, isn't quite as good as his brother.

Was he doing much of anything regardless?

Not really. Cabrera has been awful the last 2.5 years, our bullpen was awful. Only bright spots were Bedard (who was a good pitcher before Leo came on board) and Guthrie, who was pretty decent for us through August.

Much ado about nothing really.

Baltimore just has crap pitching, but I guarantee Leo was a big reason behind Bedard's success this season.

Am I the only one who knew Cabrera would be a bust?

I still cannot believe people think this guy can turn into an ace. He's garbage. Garbage.

well when you can throw 100 miles an hour, people tend to think you can straighten out your control and mechanics. unfortunately it hasnt worked out for him.

Cabrera's inconsistency is hilarious. Almost gets a no-hitter one game, then gives up 5 runs the next game.
