I don't understand why the Rays didn't deal Crawford instead.
That said...
Kazmir, Shields, Garza, Price, McGee, Davis, Niemann...
edit: ...and Jackson, Hammel, Sonnanstine, Hellickson, Talbot...

What were the Rays thinking?

How good are the players the Twins got? I'm not sure what to think, I love Garza and I'm glad we have the pitching depth in our system, but I'm a little bit shocked right now. What's the power potential on Young or any of the players we got?
This will alter the Santana deal quite a bit I think. We'll almost certainly demand a blue collar pitching prospect back. Hopefully we can rip off Anaheim or the Dodgers. Well, unless we can get Hughes and Cano from the Yanks.

I heard that the Rays are shopping Kazmir as well. If this is true the Rays should just get rid of the franchise. So dumb. Anybody know if this is true?

d. young was classified as one of the best young hitters in mlb. as for a power hitter, he hit 13 homers last season and drove in 98 runs, so i dont know how much power potential he has.

I heard that rumor as well, I don't think it's legit at all. You'd think they'd keep him especially since they are trying to get plans together for a new stadium right now as well.

And he's only what 23 and already a proven pitcher w/ a great era on a bad team plus not too mention he's a lefty. I've always loved his game and would be ecstatic if the Sox could get him

I don't think anyone really got robbed here.
Delmon Young was the top prospect in baseball a couple years back and has the tools to be a great player. I would have rather scope the market on Crawford and see what they could get. Young's walk rates leave a lot to be desired right now but I think he could hit for more power these next couple years and he's still a good contact hitter.
Garza is another additional piece to what is looking like a great staff in the future. Kazmir, Price, Shields, Garza, and a number of options to be #5.

Young has one of the best outfield arms you will ever see, and has the talent and physical ability to be a huge offensive factor down the line. Enjoy Twins fans... he'll be really good now that he's out of Tampa.

Um, he'd be reallly good if he was still in Tampa.
Jason Bartlett is a hell of a better player than Brendan Harris.
The Twins probably insisted on Young over Crawford because he is so far away from being arbitration eligable....to answer the above question.

I dunno, I still think Delmon was Sheffield-ing it in Tampa.

Delmon's power will develop, that is without question really. He's been young for every league he's been in and he has the physical tools to contend for MVP awards.
That said, I don't know if he will ever get there. The kid needs to be more patient at the plate, otherwise he's going to be served garbage the rest of his career. If the kid learns to take a walk and not crash garbage, he is going to be a destroyer.
Both teams made out well. A rotation of Kazmir/Price/Garza/Shields/McGee in two years is going to scare the hell out of me. Hey Oreos, meet the basement for the next decade. mahalo

Tampa Bay just pulled a rabbit out of their hat:
Edwardo Morlan was substituted for Juan Rincon.

The consensus seems to be that the Rays won this deal, especially with the Morlan substitution. And I do love the way TB traded from a strength (young OF) and added to a more premium strength (young SP), and plugged their SS hole and beefed up their bullpen...But I think the Twins win, because Delmon Young is going to be a superstar, the second coming of Albert Belle but about 50% less crazy.

Young has a rifle of an arm, was very consistent at the plate.
Batted .290 all year, and around .350 with RISP.
OBP was rather weak. Didn't hit for much power, but with his body frame and strength will hit for decent power very soon.
I think the Rays may be "scared" of Young's personality. He has had clubhouse and on field issues......he spent plenty of time with Elijah Dukes in the minors.
The Rays have a lot of depth in the minors, but none as promising as Young.
I am not sold on the deal, as I have just found out about it.
Didn't Bartlett make like 35 errors? Actually, that's probably more balls that Brendan Harris was able to track down at SS last year. LOL.

rays rotation will actually be respectable next season. shields was damn good this year.
