I wonder if this signing enables the Dodgers to deal a guy like Matt Kemp for pitching. Maybe Kemp in a package for Blanton/Haren. Thoughts?

Apparently Drayton Moore's signing of Jose Guillen was too terrible for Colletti to handle. This move is miles above that one in terms of suck.

Who knew you could get paid 18 a year to only play defense? Andruw is starting to decline. He is packing on the pounds so his speed isn't what it used to be and he can't hit the broad side of a barn with his bat.

This move gives the Dodgers a nice fielding outfield, that cant be denied. However 18 million dollars for a guy who just hit 222 is amazing, man Scott Boras must be from another planet. I mean is there a think Boras cant do for his clients? You can be a paraplegic and he will land you a deal for the Miami Dolphins. Amazing !

Though $18 million a year is a lot, 2 years is not taking that much of a risk by the Dodgers. Watching Pierre play centerfield last year made it clear what a handicap having a below average defender is. Though Andruw is not what he used to be, he is a clear upgrade at the position.

He is more likely to hit +30 homeruns next season than bat .220.

This is a great deal for the Dodgers... if they hadn't signed Juan Pierre. Even then, it's only 2 years, the Dodgers have the money, and I doubt Jones has as bad a year as he did last year. He'll definitely help them in the power department.

They shoul have just gave him a 1 year deal, and if he sucks this year just let him go.

Boras wouldn't allow that to happen.

Because giving 1 extra year is just awful right?? Good sign. Low risk. Makes the team more flexible for future moves.

Ask any Braves fan who follows the team closely and they'll tell you Andruw has disappointed them in every way possible recently. He has all the talent in the world, but not the drive to use it. Last season, he was hitting something like 78% of his flyballs to LF, a recipe for disaster. Instead of making major adjustments last season, he used the same old approach that brought him failure. I called for temporary benching in July when he was just atrocious. After his spurring of Boras for his last cotract, many of us wonder how closely Boras was watching Andruw to make that he wouldn't take a lower deal again. I do see Andruw bouncing back somewhat next season, but expect .250/.340 30 HR and declining defense. He's played a lot of years and doesn't seem to be keeping his body in top shape. Sooner or later, his durability is going to be gone.

This is a good signing, dodgers needed a power bat and they got it. Even with andruw bad year last season, he still hit more homers than any other dodger did this past season. So he adds power. Now the dodgers have 4 outfielders and can use 1 as trade bait for pitching.

As far as the money, the dodgers had to overpay cause its only a 2 year deal. I love how fans give a crap about the money andruw jones is making, who cares? Its not our money. If the dodgers have to over pay a bit to make the deal so short, then why not? Good move.

Those power numbers aren't too impressive when you consider he's trying to hit a HR every time up. Lots of players could hit 30+ HRs if they didn't mind having a .220 average.

Horrible move. Matt Kemp is better and costs way less. Way to block a prospect again Colletti. Idiot...

If nothing changes, Kemp will be your everyday right fielder. If anything Eithier will suffer from this signing, but hopefully Pierre is moved. As much as Andruw might not be living to everyone's expectations he is still a huge upgrade over Pierre. The money that it took is not that important when it's only 2 years. Like CITYOFANGELS said, who cares it's not our money. They could have spent it on a much worse player for much more years.
