I've heard a 4 year deal for $12.5 million a year.

Fills a gaping hole and is a perfect fit with his left-handed, high OBP bat.

Good job Hendry.

Edit: Looks like a 4 year, $48 million deal. Nice.

Hendry has quietly had a very good offseason. He's obviously working within a budget due to the sale of the team, but he's cleared salary twice with the Jacque Jones deal for Infante, then trading Infante and Will Ohman for a nice young relief prospect. With that extra money he was able to offer the most to Fukudome.

hmm. I thought I saw a more conservative projection somewhere, like .280/.360/.450 for next year. Is there a reason they don't want to give Matt Murton a shot?

he's a "young' player? they're stubborn to play him and its stupid, w/the rangers situation in the OF id gladly trade for murton

also ive heard that fukudome turned down more money from the rangers to sign w/the cubs. the one time i want a player he turns down more money to play w/another team. i guess it wouldnt make much of a difference whether its the rangers or cubs they're both perennial losers (of course the cubs can at least get to the playoffs)

Murton has trouble hitting righties.

Murton has always been as hot and cold as it gets. He certainly wasn't ready to be a fixture in either of the corner spots.

Good signing by my Cubbies, I can only imagine that his jersey will be sought after by fans.

If he's still on the roster, he'll get some at-bats. If Pie struggles badly, they'll probably move Fukudome to center and play Murton/Ward in RF.

More likely Pie will sit against lefties (where he was even more brutal) so Murton gets the favourable starts against the southpaws. Fukudome obviously shifts over to CF.

I don't think Fukudome will ever be the full-time CF, part of the reason he chose us was because we wanted him in the corner. I think it's best to just give him a start or two a week there at most.
