Been reading around, and there seems to be a consensus that the Astros have one of the worse farm systems in baseball. I'm not really sure what to make of this trade to be honest. Tejada's value might not be that high, but...eh, I dunno. It looks like the Orioles plucked 3 of the top 10 players in the Astros farm system.

The Astros needed offense, they also needed pitching. They have a lot of one and none of the other now.

Tejada will be great for that offense, but how many runs are they gonna have to score to keep up?

Meanwhile, the Orioles have quickly become unwatchable.

Wait...so let me get this: The Astros trade away their top pitching prospect, a decent-good outfielder with pop, and some useful spare parts for a chance to upgrade their 3B from Costanzo to Tejada?

Wow, pretty brutal trade for both teams. Tejada makes the Astros a75-80 win team and they get rid of the last remnants of their farm system (not that Albers or Patton were more than backend starters at best anyway). The Orioles get scraps in return for Tejada. I assume the Astros pick up his entire salary?

Luke Scott is actually really good, but he's not what the Orioles need. I can't believe they couldn't hawk Tejada for at least one worthwhile young cost-controlled player. But then again who wants an expensive, rapidly declining SS who can no longer field his position?

MLB.com cares so little about this trade that the headline read: "Orioles reportedly acquire Tejada from Astros"

I wish they could have traded for Pence, but his value must not be that high right now, and with the Mitchell Report coming out tomorrow, who knows if Miguel's name is on it.

Yes, Houston picks up his entire salary and it looks like he'll play shortstop for them.

I'm assuming Payton is getting dealt with Bedard, and Roberts is the next to go as well. At least MacPhail isn't lying to the fans, he's rebuilding the team now.

Right now, the Orioles don't have a rotation. They have like 10 guys fighting for 5 spots, so we'll see how that goes. Wouldn't be surprised if Patton makes his way up to the bigs early.

What role exactly will Tejada play for the Angels? He's not moving Adam Everett off short and they already have Ty Wiggington at 3B. Not that Ty is great but at the cost of Luke Scott, Mike Costanzo and Troy Patton to upgrade to Tejada? Odd.

They might waive Everett in the next day or two, and there's a rumor that he might sign with the Orioles. Tejada is the starting shortstop for them.

Not sure what to make of this yet. Getting Tejada isn't a terrible move for the Astros but they still need starting pitching, and although Albers/Patton aren't anything special it just makes them thinner in their rotation.

And lol at saying Luke Scott is really good. He's shown flashes of being decent but nothing special.

I have a bad feeling Tejada is going to be on that report though. It wouldn't shock me at all.


edit: Actually, I believe the owners already have received a copy of the report? In which case if Wade decided to pull the trigger on this deal I assume Tejada's name isn't on it. We'll see.

They better have something in the works as far as moving Everett/Burke or better yet Wigginton/Burke for SOME pitching.

I guess the Astros' front office personnel went to the Winter Meetings just to get the gift basket for attending.

I expect Tejada's numbers to improve now that he'll be playing half his games in Houston. Baltimore traded him about 1-2 years too late.

I like getting Tejada but our pitching is just terrible outside of Oswalt. They have to address that. I don't think Albers/Patton were the answers but now we have even less than we did. We've traded away all of our pitching prospects and have gotten no pitching in return. I sure as hell hope we have the best offense in the central, and one of the best in the NL, because we will need it.

I'm assuming Wade isn't done yet though so I'll wait and see what else happens.

Also I've heard Wade plans to bat Tejada 3rd, Berkman 4th, then Lee then Pence. Not sure if that's true though..

I'd assume Sampson will be in the rotation, MAYBE Backe or Nieve. I sure hope Woody isn't our #2 guy.
