I'm listening to Bottom Line with Casey Stern (MLB.com) and he is reporting that Aaron Rowand has signed with the Giants.
agrees to $60 million, 5-year deal with Giants

Also he's reporting that Jason Bay may be heading to the Padres.

Shouldn't the Giants be getting younger?

They should be investing in their farm system and trying to build around Cain and Lincecum. Instead, they've been shopping for a bat to put butts in the seats, apparently. Unfortunately for them, Aaron Rowand is not that bat.

The legend of Brian Sabean grows.
Sadly, I think Rowand does make the Giants younger.
This is hilarious not only for the fact that it is a 5 year ~90 million deal, but the Giants also lose a second round pick.

It's 60, not 90.

Kenny Williams Shopping List:
Torii Hunter (Angels)
Miguel Cabrera (Tigers)
Kosuke Fukudome (Cubs)
Aaron Rowand (Giants)

Ah, I read a different report that said it approached the Hunter signing.
5/60 is so very reasonable.
Lucky for Kenny Williams he didn't get any of those players. The White Sox are a last place team and signing crappy free agents is not the ideal solution.

BG, so are the Giants(comparing them to White Sox), unless you think this division is so bad that the Giants can still be competitive. I don't agree with that at all, the Giants are going to be in the cellar for the next 5 years, at least.
Signing Aaron Rowand maybe prevents the Giants from losing 100 games next year. Thats all it does. Thats not worth $12M per for the next 5 years. Plus, he's a below average bat and they are going to hit him 5th.

GS Warriors 1 you of all people should be happy about this deal. Now you can stop crying about Sabean possibly trading Lincecum.

I'm not happy about this deal.
I don't like Aaron Rowand. I don't think Sabean was going to pull the trigger on a Lincecum deal anyway.

I agree fully. The Giants are going to be so bad next year. They had one of the most anemic offenses in baseball last year WITH Barry Bonds. Imagine how bad it'll be this year with him gone.
It's going to be a lot longer than 5 years if Sabean keep giving out deals like the Zito and Rowand ones. They need a major rehaul. Trade everyone. Stop signing free agents and giving away your draft picks. YOU **** NEED THOSE TO REBUILD.
The NL West is going to be pretty tight next year. The Rockies, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Padres could all be within a few games of each other. Then the Giants will be 30 games back.

Yeah like I was saying when the Rios trade was being discussed, just rebuild. Don't go halfway because we all know there is no way they are going to contend. I really don't know what they're doing.

This could turn out to be a very good deal if Aaron manages to be consistent. I'm not sure if he's going to be able to do that over the length of his contract.

Neither does their front office so you're not alone.
