The Cardinals are going to be horrid next year. I know Edmonds hasn't played good recently but they have one good bat in Pujols and 7 other scrubs. The NL Central is getting worse and worse as time goes on. The Cubs, Brewers, and Reds are the only teams headed in the right direction.

Rasmus should join the Cardinals midseason if he is ready but won;t have much of an impact this year.

This assuming Rolen gets traded. And the rotation is even worse!

Hopefully they don't rush Rasmus and start his clock early.

But damn, couldn't get more than an old ass A baller for him, I would have rather just kept Edmonds and let him retire as a Cardinal.

No better time than now to see if Amaury Marti can give you something.

Eh, doubt it. Although he is a great story. He's only had 230 ABs in AA and has a slightly below .800 OPS. Then in the AFL this year he struggled although it was an extremely small sample size. He's not better than Barton and Ludwick who seem to be the Cardinals right handed outfielders this year, with Mather being the 3rd right handed outfielder. (This is all assuming Encarnacion is still out from the eye, which I'm pretty sure he will be.)

But what did he do for you lately, in 2007: .308/.370/.523/.893 in 120 AA at bats. .323/.387/.563/.950 in August alone, and he raked in the Mexican League before that, .337/.407/.555/.963 -- other than struggling for about 20 at bats in the AFL, Marti had a great 2007.

The only problem with that for the Astros is, they don't have the pitching to WIN if they are going in the win now direction.

And these two trades have seriously hampered any hope of acquiring starting pitching, unless it's free agency, but now the Astros get to add Tejada and Valverde to their payroll

The Astros may be in that type mode now, but winning now won't happen if your rotation is only one pitcher deep and you'll have to depend on 2-3 guys to drive in runs. The Central is wide open now. If the Cubs don't completely destroy the division next year, then they never will.

BTW, I really hope Rasmus has a Braun-like blow-up in the league. He's really going to take the country by storm.

I could have a .900 OPS in the Mexican League. He wasn't even top 15 in OPS in the MEX League, and I know for sure all the guys ahead of him aren't getting any shots at the bigs anytime soon. He's the 4th option as right handed outfielder more than likely, and about 8th overall.

I think their trying to rebuild around albert Pujols . and there is nothing wrong with rebuilding. starting over is better than stying on no man land.

As one of approxiamately 2 Padre fans on these boards, I say :-? to this trade. I really liked Edmonds a few years back, but he's fallen off in a big way. I guess Kevin Towers is hoping for Mike Piazza like results from this guy, but I dont see that happening. And if it does, he'll be gone once his deal is up anyway, just like Piazza.

Unless we grab another outfielder, we've downgraded out there this year. Giles/Bradley/Cameron>>> Haiston/Edmonds/Giles. Funnily enough, it wont be THAT much cheaper either.

I really don't think it's a bad deal. The Padres didn't need the prospect and they get a guy in the last year of his deal. It's very little risk in this deal. Maybe Edmonds can stay some what healthy and give alittle to the offense. I really don't mind the trade that much.

I think they still have to do something in the corner. I know they are after Jason Bay. They might have to give up a bit more to get that deal done.

I think you should be happier than this. Edmonds is still good as long as he is reasonably healthy. He's been reported as saying this winter that he's finally back to 100 pct. after last year's surgeries and hasn't felt this good in years. Maybe that's BS, but if not, it wouldn't surprise me to see that he still has a good year left in him.
