Uh, I don't think the article states that they are going to trade him. It's merely the writer speculating.

Not even sure why they would think about it,it's not a FA yet,and there trying to get a new stadium,so I'd think they would keep the young guys together, atleast the Marlins have gotten two World Series before they got rid of the guys.

Numbered as in he'll be a free agent in a few years.
There is no reason for Kazmir to sign a long-term deal with the Rays. Sure, his arm can explode at any moment I guess, but he'll be a free agent after the 2010 season where he'll be 26 years old. One of the youngest free agents pitchers I can think of and some team will be able to secure basically all of his peak years. The Red Sox just dropped over 100 million dollars for 6 years of a 26 year old pitcher who had no leverage and had never thrown a pitch in a major league game.
I have no idea what kind of contract offers he'll get, but an older and significantly more mediocre pitcher in Barry Zito got 7/127. 7/175-200 wouldn't so crazy for Kazmir given that contract for Zito.

He would look really nice in a Brewers uniform!
