As much as I love Rock, I think he may be the new Jim Rice once he gets voted in next year (should be a lock, right?).

But, I'm still puzzled as to how Andre Dawson isn't getting in. It just doesn't make any sense to me, his resume is perfect for the HoF, IMO.

Congrats to Goose.

Yeah I'd hate for one of the best hitters of that generation to get in.

Three seasons my ass. He had 7 or 8 great seasons. He was one of the best hitters of the late 70's to mid 80's.

Congrats to Goose.

I'd say the only lock to get in next season is Rickey Henderson, but I do also think Rice will get in next season also, just dont think he's a lock.

Just something quick about Rice from 75 to 86. He ranked first in the AL in games (1,766), first in at-bats (7,060), first in runs (1,098), first in hits (2,145), first in home runs (350), first in runs batted in (1,276), first in slugging percentage (.520), first in total bases (3,670), first in extra-base hits (752), first in go-ahead RBIs (325), first in multihit games (640), fourth in triples (73).

I do agree with you BBJ the splits do him no favors. Personally I think he did enough to get in, but I can see how some say no.

I'm paraphrasing mightily here from a column I read recently.

There was a CF in the AL, who for a ten year period in the 80s and 90s, led the league in homers and RBIs. He stole as many as 31 bases in a season, and has a couple 20-20 seasons. He also hit one of the three or four most memorable home runs in history and won two championships. He received MVP votes eight years, finishing in the top five three times.

Hall of Famer, right? Joe Carter didn't even get 5%.

Joe Carter played center for 3 years.
Joe Carter had one great season in 1986.
Joe Carter had a career .306 OBP.
Joe Carter is far far from a hall of famer.

Exactly my point.
