Good move for the Cardinals. Won't make a difference this season but in a few years they will have a really good offense.

No they won't. Pujols and the guy in the sig can only do so much.
Hopefully Glaus has a huge first half and the Cards trade him at the deadline for prospects though. The Cards could potentially save 23M in this deal.

I didn't realize Glaus was 31 years old already. I thought he was in his late 20's so yeah a deadline trade would be great for you guys. I'm thinking it's a good deal for you guys because you got rid of a guy that wanted out and got a pretty good baseball player in return. I know Troy Glaus is injury-prone but if he is healthy he could put up 30 home runs this year.

I really don't see how this benefits the Jays in any way. They do want to catch the Sawx and Yanks, right?

Both players are injury prone, one is better offensively and one is better defensively. That being said, I would've rather kept Glaus.

This makes no sense for Toronto IMO.

Both players seem to be equally injury prone at this point so we can disregard that for now. Really, the Jays are giving up power for BA and infield D. With St. Louis sending some $$ Torontos way, its a pretty decent deal for each team, but i dont think improves either all that much in total.
My feeling is that the Jays were looking to shake up the lineup a little considering the main pieces are all back from last year and many of those players had disappointing years at the plate. The added D at 3B makes the Jays an incredible (probably the best) feilding team in the league (with the exception of Catcher). And finally, the extra $ the Jays get in the deal could be spent immediatly to bring in another piece before the season starts. Theyre still in the market for a legit starter and so now have room to take on more salary in a potential trade, or scrounge up a depth option through free agency.

Actually a healthy Rolen is better offensively but you may never see a fully healed Rolen again. Thats the risk JP took.

Well, Toronto has made a concerted effort to build around pitching and defense, so I suppose this makes a little sense in that regard. But the Jays will have to win a tonne of 3-2 ballgames to stay in the Wild Card race through September...

this could be a potential steal for the cardinals, if you think glaus hit well at skydome, imagine how he will hit at the new bucsh.

Not good since Busch Stadium is one of the worst home run parks in baseball and Rogers Centre is one of the best.

i like this deal for the jays. glaus just could not play on the fake turf anf it felt like he was out every other game. rolen may be as oft-injured but i think a change of sceneries might help these guys out.
the jays are definetly shaping into one of the best defensive teams in the league.
1B - Overbay
2B - Hill
SS - Eckstein
3B - Rolen
OF - Johnson
OF - Wells
OF - Rios
C - Zaun
only weak spot there is the catcher position.

It allows us to play Eckstein more. While he's not an ideal leadoff hitter, he's better than Johnson for the role.

You need to take into consideration replacing McDonald with X, thats a downgrade in my book.

Glaus just didnt seem at all reliable last season. he was out day to day all through the season and didnt seem to deliver any clutch hits. JP is certainly leaning on Frank Thomas, Vernon and Rios for power, but if they all have decent seasons the Jays arent bad off in that department. Esp since Rolen, Overbay have a little pop in their bats too.
Anyway, im excited about this deal for the Jays if for no other reason than for a bit of a shakeup

The Jays will send the Cardinals 1.8 million as part of the deal, not Toronto getting money as many would have thought.
