Pedro Martinez involved in cockfighting

Post#1 » by Markos » Thu Feb 7, 2008 3:09 pm

A video of New York Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal at a cockfight was posted this week on YouTube.

Martinez and Marichal laugh before releasing the roosters. The two took part as honorary "soltadores," the word used to describe the person who puts the animal to fight.

The animal released by Martinez appears to be killed on the video, which was posted Tuesday. The fight takes place in the Coliseo de Gallos (Rooster Coliseum) in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic's biggest cockfighting venue. Cockfighting is legal and popular in the Dominican Republic.

By early Thursday, the video was removed "due to terms of use violation."

Michael Vick part dieux?

Pedro..:nonono: at least take part in something not as homoerotic sounding.

As for the Vick comparison: It should be interesting to see the backlash from this.

Free Mike Vick!!

And this is legal and part of the culture in DR. This shouldnt even be compared to Michael Vick unless Pedro has a home in the states and he has a cock fighting rink set up in his backyard and is helping trafficking cock fighting.

People love dogs, not many people love roosters, so this is ok. I really doubt PETA camps out in front of Shea Stadium with all their (Please Use More Appropriate Word) signs and megaphones. I hate those people with a passion.

The part we don't really want anymore.
First the federal government borrowed money; then gave the money to Bank of America; then I borrowed some of that money from Bank of America and gave it to the federal government; then the federal government gave the money back to Bank of America.

Spend a month in Puerto Rico & you'll want to leave that cesspool in Baltimore.

Some people like cocks. I would be shocked if this didnt involve picketing Shea until the distraction became large enough for pedro to apologize

I gotta say, as a mets fan this makes me like Pedro less.

He broke no laws and he was obviously a guest at the event, it's not like he was running these at his house - that would be worse.

but as a fan, this makes me less interested in going to a game when Pedro's pitching. I'm not so shocked that I'm likely to protest, but to me, this is worse than anything Marbury did this off-season (like giving interviews stoned and not knowing the difference between a dime and an assist) - that doesn't bother me. This Pedro Vid does bother me. Did he do anythign wrong? No, not technically. He's free to do what he wants, but he did something that I disagree with. So, Pedro looses points for this one.

But it's not a Michael Vic situation.
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Double standard?

People in America to watch people fight each other over a period of time, see Boxing, UFC and Wrestling. Nobody cares because bottom line they are human.

People eat KFC where the chickens are caged, boxed and what not. If you like chicken you eat it. People flee to the tracks to watch horses and dogs run and run and thats it. Dont they deserve a chance in life?

The PETA need to realize that this was in the DR where its legal so shut up. I mean just because he "WORKS" in America does not mean he is a bum because he did something legal. Sure I dont condone hurting animals, but its part of the culture and thats all that needs to be said. Just because they have different standards in that country I not going to throw a hissy fit.

I agree. I also have no problem with people in Saudi Arabia having their wives stoned for committing adultery, as it is legal there.

Legality does not equal morality, dumbass.

Edit:
Hey, it let me call you a dumbass. Sweet.

No, because that isn't what I was doing; I was exposing his logical fallacy. So it was good that you asked.
