What did Theo say about "Not having bad apples like the Yankees did" bitching about the trip?

I hope someone notifies the A's of tis, otherwise they'll be really confused when they get to Tokyo

the yankees coaches got paid, just like the 3 other teams that have done this. this is just another screw-up on Selig's hands.

I actually think what the Red Sox are doing is a pretty good thing. The players are showing that they care about the other people in the organization. Good for them.

I just tuned in to watch the Jays play though. So hopefully they go ahead with the game.

jays and the sox just went back into their clubhouse's. the stands are full too, this is bizarre

Remember when Theo called out Mussina and other Yankees for being "bad apples" on the Japan trip in 2004 a month ago?

hey look, jump to conclusions jenny joined the party. did you actually read anything in regards to this?? and the A's are boycottin too, so any fun little quips about them?

The A's have made no mention of boycotting... Alan Embree, a former Sox player, has said he supports them... they play the Cubs SS today, along with the Dodgers at noon PST, and there's no reports of it.. there is rumors but nothing else so far.

I don't blame the Sox players, I blame those in charge, including Theo. I am not spinning this any which way. I actually like what the Sox players are doing.

& Theo's original comment is laughable. The Yankees blew a 3-0 lead against the Redsox because Mussina & Kevin Brown bitched about going overseas to start the season? It had nothing to do with Flash Gordon choking, the Yankee bats going silent, Torre not telling his players to bunt on Schilling, Kevin Brown having to start game 7 etc... No, it obviously was because the players complained about going overseas. Theo's logic is amazing.

They weren't making a deal of going overseas and playing, but they did have an issue with going overseas and not having their coaches and lockerroom personnel not get what was promised to them, as Schilling made note of through Gammons of ESPN.

been hittin the pipe today pal?? where did Theo bring the Japan trip into the playoffs?? he was referring to that unbelievably bad start when you guys came back.

Isn't a $40,000 per employee stipend a bit much? Yeah, traveling overseas is uncomfortable and you have to overcome jet lag on both sides of the trip... lots of us have to deal with that and it's just part of our jobs. There are people out there who don't make that much in a year.

Anyway, I'd be more impressed by the players' generosity and kindness to the little guy if they offered to shell out some of that money themselves. It's chump change by their standards. Teams routinely vote playoff shares to departed teammates, which cuts into their own shares but really only enriches another millionaire, the media always laud the players for their selflessness. Why not take care of the true proletariat in a similar way?

Why should the players pony up money that MLB said they would provide? Do you work for free? This is like being asked to work overtime, going through the hassle of flying to Japan, playing a couple games, flying back, going back to spring training, then flying to your first regular season series.

I think the players would pony up the money, but why the **** should they? This is on MLB. If you manage a group of people at work and the company stiffs them out of 100 bucks on travel expenses do you pay up out of your pocket?

Whether the amount is too much isn't relevant. Apparently MLB said all uniformed personnel would receive this stipend and then they apparently reneged. This is not how an organization that had revenues exceeding 5 billion dollars should conduct itself. Over what will amount to less than a million dollars they are risking looking foolish to Japan and the rest of the World. Daisuke Matsuzaka is going to open the MLB season in Japan. And MLB is reneging on paying a few coaches and training staff. **** that.

40,000 dollars is a lot of scratch for a coach. How much does a trainer make in a year? 75 grand or something? Maybe? What about all the players on rookie salaries? This is 10% of their yearly salary. Would you give up 10% of your yearly salary because the company you worked for altered your contract after it was signed?
