The New York Mets are allowing people to vote for what sing-a-long song they will play during the eighth inning of their final season at Shea Stadium.

They did not include Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" as an option, but they included an "Other:" field for people to suggest a different song.

I wasn't going to participate, but then when I saw their completely asinine list of nominees, I decided I had to vote for the Rickroll on general principle.

The Mets will have a runoff to determine their new eighth-inning sing-along tune.

The organization received 5 million votes on its Web site after inviting fans to choose from among 10 selections to potentially replace Sweet Caroline. An issue arose, however, when FARK.com readers bombarded the Mets with gag votes for a write-in candidate: Rick Astley

Lame because Rick Roll won't make it. Lame because Brown Eyed Girl isn't even in the top 6.

A senior partner at my firm went to the Mets' opener. I asked him how he enjoyed the Rickroll. He had no idea what I was talking about, so I explained it all to him. He did remember hearing the song (and the booing that came with it) but had missed out on the joke. And when I told him that I had played a very small part in all of this... well, he's not too pleased with me today.

Bah, screw them, they deserve internet pwnage.

I mean you know "Livin' On a Prayer" is going to end up winning solely because it's one of the most cliche stadium songs ever and everyone knows the lyrics.
