Geovany Soto

What is his ceiling as a player and his most likely career path?

He's a 25-year old rookie who's simply having a monster start to the year. His current line is .349/.442/.651.

That's good for 5th in the majors in OPS (.002 points behind Pujols). And he mashed the ball when he was called up in September last season, so his career numbers are a sparkling .341/.415/.605. All this while throwing out runners at a very impressive 41% clip.

Coming into the season I had Towles over Soto. Man this guy is amazing. I expect him to hit over .270 this season.

look for him to be like a posada type player

20 homers and 90 RBI's and a batting average about .280.

.275/.360/.500 type hitter, I'm guessing. That along with his defensive skills probably make him a top 5 MLB catcher.

Top 5 MLB catcher for 10 years. Defense and offense.

For Soto to hit .260 this year, he'd have to hit .237 from here on out given a typical 145 game season for a catcher. Even if he hits .280 the rest of the year, which sounds reasonable, he'd end the year with a .293 average.

I don't see why he can't be as good, if not better, than Russell Martin. So best catcher in the game at his peak.

Just 189 AB on his career, but it's pretty hard to fluke into a 1.010 OPS over 189 atbats so I think it's safe to say he's really, really, really good. His average will come down, though to somewhere in the .270-.280 range. But he walks a lot and has shown excellent power.

.277/.374/.503 hitter over his peak with maybe a .305/.400/.540 year thrown in somewhere. Final answer.

That was luck. But seriously I thought that was a 3 run homer.

He has speed too?!?!?!?!?

OMG greatest catcher of all time.

That will probably be changed to just a regular HR. He's definitely faster than McCann though. McCann would lead the world in triples if he had Soto's "speed."

That's why I put speed in quotations, but have you seen McCann? There are players that could walk faster than his sprint.

Gerald Laird is the slowest person I have seen run this season.

Johnny Estrada wins the slowest catcher award by a mile. I could run faster than him with two broken ankles.
