The San Diego Padres have agreed to trade staff ace Jake Peavy to the Chicago White Sox and are waiting for Peavy to decide if he will waive his no-trade clause, sources tell ESPN.
Peavy has a full no-trade clause and can veto the deal.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4191562Power move by the White Sox, maybe someone does want to win that division after all.

Any doubt that he'd be the most hated man on the South Side ever if he vetoed a deal to the Sox but okayed on to the Cubs? That would be comedy.

Comical trade by the Padres if they don't get Gordon Beckham.

I guess Gordon Beckham can't be traded until August so the White Sox would make him the PTBNL then. Which makes more sense.

From my understanding he didn't veto a trade to Wrigley, the Cubs did. The Padres wanted 4 players & for the Cubs to take on the entire salary of Peavy's & the Cubs said "pass".

I don't think the Cubs can take on Peavy's contract until the sale of the team goes through. I think they would have done the deal in the offseason had they been sold.

Seems Oswalt doesnt want to go the White Sox either, is it because of Ozzy?

No, I think it has to do with National League pitchers not wanting to go to the big, bad American League.

Peavy is willing to go to the Angels and Oswalt might be willing to go to another AL team. It's not just that the AL is better. The best pitchers aren't afraid of good hitting. Good pitching in many cases beats good hitting.

Do you really think that if Sabathia was called and told he was traded to White Sox and asked if he wanted to go there he would? I don't think many people are eager to go to the White Sux right now.

I think its both reasons, actually: NL pitchers don't want to go to the AL, and they especially do not want to go to the White Sox.
