http://www.nj.com/yankees/index.ssf/200 ... inske.htmlThe Yankees traded for Pirates utility man Eric Hinske on Tuesday. The Yankees sent to the Pirates two minor leaguers, outfielder Eric Fryer and right-handed pitcher Casey Erickson, in exchange for Hinske, the 2002 rookie of the year.

Meh, I don't really like Hinske but we didn't give up much for him.

Hinske had some pop last year, he's a solid bench player.

Fryer and Erickson are both basically low-level organizational depth, so no loss there. (Please Use More Appropriate Word) Strength™ has been raking down in AAA and probably deserves another shot off the bench, but Hinske can play 3rd base; with ARod's status still kind of up in the air, that helps. Good deal, but not a season changer. This is the type of move that would've helped more 3 years ago when they were surrendering 250 at-bats to Andy Phillips.

I doubt Millar ever plays for the Yankees or Rays, while there's a relatively decent chance Hinske could get on the O's after this, so that competition's finished, far as i'm concerned.
