The Reds just needed someone the jump in and pitch against the Phils, but having him pitch as a reliver is crazy bc he as a 49.5 era and everytime he pitches the other team gets at least 5 runs it seems like

Wouldn't that be all the more reason to have him pitch? Even if you get a scoreless inning from an actual reliever that inning, what are the chances that your offense is going to score at least 15 runs in one inning to tie the game in the 9th? Almost none, so use a position player and save you bullpen who had to cover over 7 innings.
