Somehow, this makes no sense, but as a Marlins fan I couldn't care less but to laugh.

-- Even though this season they've been hurt plenty by injuries, the last 2 seasons where they had a chance to enter the playoffs by a single win needed, and couldn't get it, how do you continue to bring back the same front office who failed, back?

NEW YORK -- Mets general manager Omar Minaya is expected back next season.
The New York Post reported Sunday that owner Fred Wilpon said Minaya will return in 2010 despite the failings of his $136 million team on and off the field this year.

Minaya in turn told the newspaper that if he's back, manager Jerry Manuel will return as well.
"I always felt I had ownership's support and I'll continue to work to do my job every day to the best of my abilities," Minaya told The Associated Press on Sunday.
Manuel said he appreciated the support, but he was focused on winning games. Manuel had received the backing of Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon, the owner's son, in July.

I must say that I find it hilarious the bad luck the mets have had this year..
-Injuries to: Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, David Wright JJ Putz, Billy Wagner and John Maine.
-they lose to the yankees by dropping a pop up to 2nd.
-Scouts wanting to fight minor leaguers
-They hit the 2nd triple double ever to end a game.
-A number of hilarious misplays out in the OF
-Their biggest acquisition has an ERA over 3 and has blown 5 saves.
-As of August 23rd they only have 1 player with double digits in HR's and that's Gary Sheffield with 10..

Manuel may not be that bad to retain, but I thought after the off-field incidents and in the manner Minaya held them in, he would've been on a shorter leash, but it doesn't seem that way.

Now Santana will probably need surgery. I thought the Braves got screwed with injuries last year, but the Mets are taking it to another level.

So happy as a Yankee fan that we didn't make that trade. Imagine if the Yankees had Santana instead of CC, Hughes and Melky. It would have been disastrous, short term and long term

Yeah I'm sure the Yankees would have never went after CC with Johan, with all their money troubles and all.

Its certainly possible that they could've had both, but to think that acquiring and signing a pitcher to a deal that would make him the highest paid in the game would not impact future free agent implications is simply foolish.
Best case scenario Santana simply replaces Burnett. In which case you can make an argument that Santana > Burnett + Hughes. However I think it would've had greater implications. I think we either wouldn't have signed Sabathia or we wouldn't have signed Burnett and also wouldn't have acquired someone else like Swisher, Pettitte or even Teixeira who we really didn't go after until late in the race. Santana's contract I think would likely have had greater implications on the payroll than simply not adding Burnett. Even if it didn't though Burnett + Hughes have both been great for us thus far.

Bad decision. Minaya should go.

George Steinbrenner isn't in charge anymore. The Yankees operate on a budget now (Granted, it's a $200 million budget, but that's just semantics).

^Its going to be even less than 200 million soon enough; there was a report that said Hal wants it to hover around 160-175 after 2011.
