New York Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Dec 22, 2009 3:37 pm

The Atlanta Braves have traded pitcher Javier Vazquez to the New York Yankees, according to published reports.

The New York Daily News and ESPN reported Tuesday that the right-handed starting pitcher will be traded to the Yankees along with left-handed reliever Boone Logan.

In exchange, the Yankees will be sending Melky Cabrera, Mike Dunn and another minor-league player south to the Braves, the newspaper reported.

bahahahaha holy ****.

I mean I know Javy's first stint with the Yankees wasn't great, but this makes no sense whatsoever. He quietly put up a Cy Young-caliber season last year. Why trade him for a fourth outfielder and an okay relief prospect?

Arodys Vizcaino, assuming he's the prospect, is a nice low-level farmhand but doesn't justify this either.

It's a really stupid trade for Atlanta, but I'm not sure how well Vazquez will do in New Yankee...he has a career 1.2 HR/9 rate (last year was his first under 1), and could get shelled on a fairly regular basis.

I'm glad I didn't buy any season tickets.

What a terrible trade for us.

Melky freaking Carbrera?

SERIOUSLY?!?

oh, and we're stuck with Derek Lowe still.

Thanks Wren!

Damon hits 800 homeruns in Yankee Stadium last year and Melky manages 13.

Sounds like the big bat we needed.

Great deal. Cashman had a huge off-season, and although he lost 2 good prospects (Vizcaino, Jackson) he solidified the rotation and upgraded the offense.

I love the deal but I will miss Melky. Makes no sense for Atlanta. At all.

Terrible trade for Atlanta is right. I was listening to sports talk radio and Atlanta fans are furious!!!!!

The plan was to trade Derek Lowe, but Atlanta found not takers, and now they pissed him off. Atlanta switches gears and trades it's best pitcher.

great trade for yanks

consider the fact javy is coming in to be a #3-4, its a great move...as soon as people realize he'll never be that #1, they'll appreciate him more...and its already been established he was injured in his first stint and never told anyone

Yankees rotation is just a nightmare to deal with. Great trade for the Yanks, I didn't even think highly of Melky.

Wren just thinks he can make it all better by acquiring, well.....read the quote:

Braves GM Frank Wren told reporters that Melky Cabrera is a nice fit, but he's still looking for offense. David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the $8MM or so saved by the Braves probably won't go toward Jason Bay or Matt Holliday, but he wonders if they'll try for Adrian Gonzalez. We've got more on potential bats for the Braves here http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/j ... tions.html

It's a business but I believe the Braves have not been very professional with the way they've handled things this off-season.

Vazquez's numbers of course won't be as good with the Yankees. But they don't have to be either, he's sure got a much better offense to work with than he did with the Braves. I could see a 15-8 season with a 4.40 era and that would be just fine as the number 4 in NY.

The Yanks and Sox sure do have some quality pitching staffs going into next season. Of course the Sox can't touch the Yankees on offense tho.

You see his ERA going to 4.40? I don't see it going that high. He's on the final year of his contract and is going to want to be pitching his best. I see around the same record as you have with an ERA at about 4.

I think Javy becomes the Yankees #3 to be honest. Slide Andy to 4 & have Joba as the 5th (simply because Hughes has an innings limit). I like that rotation. A lot. Mitre, Gaudin & Aceves are spot starters (Aceves being the only one I am kinda confident in but with that offense, it doesn't matter).

I think they would be better off with Joba as the setup man and start to groom him into taking over for Mariano when that day comes.

That or take a flier on someone like Ben Sheets. Then you have Rivera, Joba, and Hughes for the 7,8,9 that could just be silly.
