Damn and its not like Seattle and Denver are looked as must watch TV this year (even with the Russ going back to Seattle storyline).

Also just a reminder, game 6 of the NBA Finals was the most watched Finals game in the last 3 years and that got 13.9... The NFL is just on a different level haha. Football is part of the US culture.

Easy answer. America loves a villain & underdog story.

The Hawks have clearly become America's team.

Jerry just gave his second State of The cowboys Union speech today. He has to play his little mind games to the younger new generation Cowboys fans that everything will be all right if they just listen to him and take his word on everything. And the Cowboy fans will be stupid enough to buy his crap and continue to purchase home tickets that went up 20% this season. Now Jerry is saying Dak will be back within 4 weeks now and saving the season, instead of going on the IR. Coming back to what? The great coach Mike McCarthy, the great whimpy C.D. Lamb that drops balls and can't beat double coverages, a stout, all star group of offensive lineman and the best owner the cowboys have ever had. By the way, after 7 years has Dak convinced anyone in here that he is the guy for the Cowboys? Personally I think the guy sucks and is dumb as a bag of rocks.

This is why garrappolo shoulda went free, instead of tied up by the 9ers. Injuries happen in this league. Job openings occur. He shoulda bet on himself. Instead of being a fallback plan

I think the primary reason for this is that it was on ABC and ESPN (and it being week 1 with people excited with the NFL back). It being on a free network is going to at least double the viewership. For example I would have watched none of it on ESPN because I don't have ESPN and it wasn't a game I was interested in enough to find a stream somewhere for.

But I have a high powered antenna so to pull it up on ABC with great quality made me watch it.

Then you have all the casual tv and/or nfl viewers in general tuning as well especially because none of the primetime fall shows have started airing yet.

Of course Russ going back to Seattle holds some appeal for some, but that certainly wasn't the reason for the huge boom in viewership.

This is the first year in forever that they are resuming showing MNF on ABC (sometimes I think). Once the main primetime shows start it will put some type of dent in it but I don't know how much overlap it would hae with something like The Voice which I think usually pulls the majority of Monday night viewers. Will have to see how that show's viewership drops.

But Monday Night Football may not trail SNF too much if the games are as good of matchups (though they probably usually won't be).
