i really think shanahan was going to pick mac jones or fields but someone changed his mind last minute, investing 3 first round picks on such a raw and inexperienced player is a crazy gamble that didnt need to happen.

I think the original rumor was that Shanahan preferred Mac. But scouts & people inside the building wanted Lance.

Both guys felt like odd choices. Outside of Lawrence that QB class was vastly overrated. The idea of trading up for the 3rd pick to take a QB made little sense.

i wouldnt have minded if they moved up for someone like fields, even if he ended up as a bust you know you did your due diligence. but when you are working with such a small and low quality sample size that impedes your ability to scout, trading that many picks is just gambling. track record of first round qbs with one year starting experience is pretty bad, and that is with all the others coming from power 5 conferences.

i think fields ends up better than lawrence. he is already the best running qb in the league, we will see what he could do after he gets a real oline and receivers.

Stroud is a better prospect than Fields coming out. But he's also hard to evaluate because of the system & his supporting cast. He has had a top level offensive line, along with some very good WR's.

If Stroud goes to a team with a poor line & no help then he'll likely struggle at the next level.

stroud is different than all the other roll-out qbs from ohio state that failed, he is actually good in pocket which translates better in pros. most teams have at least one good receiver and receiver pipeline to nfl is pretty amazing nowadays so i am not too concerned about that, but might take him a while to learn to improvise if he ends up in a bad oline situation.

You're right about that. His game is far different than Fields. Haskins was just a knucklehead.

I actually like Stroud's game for the most part. The one legit concern are his numbers when he faces pressure. But he's very good within structure.

I think his stock would be much higher if he didn't completely **** the bed against Michigan. A lot will depend on how he performs against Georgia's defense.
