Turns out Denver was smart to do so.

I don't recall for sure but Payton wasn't the HC when Russ went to the Broncos?

But Payton definitely wanted to get away from him as starter and the contract obviously allowed the team to do so.

Not yet convinced that Bo Nix is the franchise QB who will lead the team back towards the top -- they're in a tough division.

But he's on a rookie deal for this upcoming season and 2-3 more seasons, which is a lot better than what they'd have had to pay Wilson if he was still on the Broncos.

He got $160m guaranteed from Denver. But ultimately that amount fell well short of what he & his agent we're pursuing. But no team would be dumb enough to agree to it. Well, maybe Cleveland? :wink:
