When you have an injury like this, it isn't about having heart. It's about being smart, taking care of the problem and coming back when you're healthy. Contracts are not guaranteed and he is taking a big risk. Do you think the Chargers are going to pay his whole contract if he gets injured in the near future? Well, Shawn since you showed heart, we're going to keep you around and pay you. It's not going to happen. The Chargers are a good team. Get better and then come back. I would be pissed if I was a Chargers fan.

SD has to protect their investment and do whatever it takes to force him under the knife.

This is dumb on so many levels I don't even know where to start.

This isn't an act of bravery and/or heart. This is an act of straight stupidity. I pretty such if we conducted a random drug test on him at this moment, he would be facing an 8 game suspension because that's the only explanation of that moronic decision to play. To each his own though. I'm a Raiders fan as well and I obviously don't care too much for the Chargers (Though, I don't hat them nearly as much as the Broncos or the Chiefs), but San Diego is even dumber if they don't take the horse my the reigns and shut him down themselves. Even with out him they are still one of the better defenses in the league. I don't wish ill will upon him like losing his career, but the fact remains, he has already apparently lost his mind.

I just had a stupid thought, but I'll still share it:

Does anyone else think that Merriman may be doing this to, if potentially successful, make people forget about that 4-game steroid suspension, which many people think should have taken the DPOY from him?

Exactly. He's only hurting himself.

anyone else think this is about money? because he hasnt gotten the big time extension that his other teammates have gotten, but he needs to shut it down, he's younger then some people drafted this year were but he's willing to throw what can be a sensational career for 1 year

I think it IS about money, San Diego can ride him into the ground and get their use of him, then they won't have to make him the highest paid defensive player in the league when he's up for extension. That's why they are going to let him play.

Much props to Merriman, a true Warrior. In El Hardee's book he is a gangster.

Merriman is an idiot and it's nice to know he's jeopardizing his career for the benefit of NFL fans that care about the game.

Poetic justice would be blowing out the ACL in his right knee during game action.

well as a chargers fan i don't like this even a bit. and he might be doing this because he is "brave" and has "heart" but this is not the superbowl we are talking about that he could actually be of some difference.

i'm pretty sure he won't last 2-3 games with that injury that by the way is one of the worst and most critical injuries any athlete can have.

he made a very stupid choice and also the chargers for backing him and letting him play.

if he wants to do something for his teammates, the team, the fans and th nfl he should get surgery, that won't make you less or more man.

I completely tore my PCL in highschool and it doesnt affect me at all. As ar as ligaments go, the PCL and LCL are known to be the two less relevent ones. I still think hes stupid for not having surgery, but I dont think its THAT career threatening.

^^^^ Do you play profootball? There's a big difference between simple, every day walking around, working, and/or casual/competitive amature sports and playing in the NFL. 4 doctors flat out told him he can make the injury worse, probably will make the injury worse, and that it's carreer threatening. Maybe it wont end his carreer, but it has the potential to make him a shadow of what he was preinjiury. It's obvious he's trying to prove something but this is pretty stupid.
Im pretty freakin awesome........

He'll probably just play while taking HGH.

I play sports 4-5x a week (soccer, basketball, softball, football, volleyball), although all of it is just amateur, Ive played enough sports in my life to know that my left knee is just as capable as my right. I still dont think he should be playing, but I also think that reports of this being career ending may be a bit overblown.

I hate the Chargers as much as I hate any team in sports..Merriman is up there with Kobe and Tomlinson on my list of most hated players..but I hope he gets better next year..this is karma for his steroid use, but I hope he recovers and gets to play next year..it isn't fun beating a rival when one of their top players is out..

he's still a piece of **** though..
