That 99 first round sure turned out pretty crappy. Especially for QBs.
There were only four successful QBs to come out of that draft, and by successful, I mean made the playoffs:
Donovan F. McNabb
Daunte Culpepper
Shaun King (he took over mid-season for Trent Dilfer, FWIW)
Aaron Brooks
Yeah. King also made the playoffs while starting all 16 games the next season. Im not sure why his career just basically ended, he wasnt terrible or anything.
Look at the top 13 picks, 5 of them were huge busts (and 2 of in the top 3 alone). That really had to suck for the Bengals, not only did Akili Smith turn out the way he did, they also had to live with the fact that they turned down 9 draft picks for that spot from Ditka. Though Id say Minnesota had the stupidest pick in the first round. (No not the Culpepper one)
Dimitrius Underwood was one of the worst picks ever. I mean when coaches from the guys college are telling you hes not Mentally Stable enough to play in the NFL, why in the hell would you use a first rounder on him?
