Week 1 DVOA Ratings

Post#1 » by J.Kim » Tue Sep 9, 2008 7:35 pm

Of course, since it's week 1, there shouldn't be too much weight being put in to DVOA, but it's still interesting to check out what a game like Philadelphia had rates on the DVOA scale.

I find it interesting that the Patriots’ VOA is so high: I don’t remember how the defensive metrics treat unpressured drops (or, at least, how much in credited to the defense) but the Patriots definitely benefited from quite a few dropped passes that they had nothing to do with.

I think it's subjective depending on how the DB or the cover player played the ball. There's a couple fluky aspects towards that in a game-by-game aspect, but over a season it averages it out I think.

Eh, it's just not as worthwhile to look at until they can make the defensive adjustments and get the picture a little clearer IMO.

The comedy numbers from the Iggles and Rams game are still fun, though.
