Well Reebok will have to eat the cost of all the ones they already made with "Johnson" on the back. They can't really sell them any more. $4 million is a lot of money to have to eat for any company.
Im pretty freakin awesome........

From the title, I thought this was confirmation that he was going to. The bottom line is - how many C. Johnson jerseys do they expect to sell while people are lining up for Ocho Cinco jerseys?

I didn't know professional athletes had that obligation. And I just noticed authentic jerseys were $285 at the NFL Shop. I have never bought an authentic jersey and I see now I never will.

Because the NBA isn't as tight-assed as the NFL.

And they can still sell his old jerseys. After Favre was traded, his GB jerseys were still allowed to be sold, but no more could be made.

Kobe announced his change way in advance. Ocho Cinco did this right before the season.

they make jerseys all year long, not just during the season. I tend to agree with Mags FTW's take

They had a chance to slow down the jersey production for Kobe.

Yeah, but there were still a bunch of #8 jerseys on store shelves and in warehouses. I don't think Kobe had to buy all of those back.

I don't know why they even made so many of his "Johnson" jerseys anyway, with all of those trade rumors around him.

The NFL obviously just doesn't want him to do it. Reebok would make more money then they would lose from people buying Ocho Cinco Jerseys.

I agree this has a lot to do with the NFL just not wanting him to do it, but there is a difference between a number change that was announced in advance and a sudden name change. And the NFL is roughly four times larger than the NBA so it's understandable that they're more strict.

Its pretty simple, he missed the deadline date to have it done by. Its his own damn fault for not looking into it. Especially if he was considering the name change as far back as last off season.

There's no difference between a name and number change. There's a difference in the time, but I'm pretty sure he'd still have to pay if he did this back in say, January.
