All per wiretap.

:rolf: at Dawson wanting a new deal. I really hope Lane is fired. He hasn't proven anything and is the next college coach to suck in the NFL. Also, the Pats signed Matt Guiterrez. I really doupt hes better than Cassell

He has yet to have been given a LEGIT chance to prove anything with Davis controlling EVERYTHING!

If anything, he DOES NOT deserve to be fired, rather it's time for Davis to retire!

Yeah, how would you know if Kiffin is a bad coach? He hasn't been given the chance to coach yet.

Lane Kiffin and Marvin Lewis should team up and both quit, then demand the OC and DC gigs in San Francisco and be co-head coaches once Mike Nolan gets his sorry heinie canned when they're 0-5.

i think lane can be a good HC. any player or coach going to OAK is going to a black hole and will be terrible/not win.

Icness - have you heard any rumblings about Lane from any sources?

I only ask because I still have a couple connects with the Raiders, and they're indicating that Ryan is very much playing up the players' coach angle right now, and that some are mentally preparing for him to take over... want to know if its legit or just whispers.

He's not supposed to be better than Cassel. Gutierrez knows the system (was around last year, cut this pre-season), and was brought in to be the 3rd QB.

Ryan has been playing up his own credentials, undermining Kiffin, and trying to get back to the halcyon days of Hendricks and Tatum with the implicit reason to get the HC job. That's been going on since the day Lane Kiffin was hired; that's why Kiffin asked to have Ryan fired this offseason. When Al Davis threatened to fire Kiffin instead at that point, Kiffin knew he was done. One of their players told me in August that Kiffin has been saying stuff about "whoever will be coaching you" since the beginning of camp.

I don't know Lane Kiffin at all, but a Raider insider (he's also a former Browns insider, hint hint) told me that Kiffin really wants to coach at a BCS school with great resources and a commitment to football. I asked him if that could be read as Penn State and he said that's the "kind of thing I'm talking about". So I think very strongly he'll wind up back in college soon. As for the Raiders, Rob Ryan sure fits the Al Davis Raiders mold but so does another guy...Brian Billick.

No Denny Green talk? Nothing would make me smile more than watching that meltdown.

Brian Billick would be a great HC for us... ultimately it won't matter until we become fiscally responsible. But I'd prefer an offensive-minded HC more than a Ryan style. At least while we're not admitting JaMarcus was a mistake. Yet.

Its funny... word for word, "whoever will be coaching you". I thought the guy was exaggerating to make the point.. Kiffin must be done.

FWIW, I'd hate Ryan as the new HC... I mean, I agree with the whole smashmouth football thing, but we dont have the defensive roster for that... we don't generate pressure at the line, and considering the investments we've made in Burgess, Kelly, and Warren, that's just unacceptable.. any team with a competent QB/O-line will eat us for breakfast.

Thanks for the update :D
