Rick Spielman was a genius at structuring deals. He set it up so the cap hits would be spready evenly over time. Like, Allen and Winfield's huge cap hit years would be together, then Berrian and Williams would be together. They never get a huge cap bill for all their big ticket players at the same time. It's sort of the opposite of what Washington and the Jets have done--if it winds up that 2010 is capped, the Jets are positioned to be something like $30M over it and that's before they figure out who's playing QB.
It helps that none of the players the Vikes drafted have required big-ticket extensions, certainly at the big-ticket positions (LT, QB, DE). You take the good with the bad...
