Offensive Coup: Bucs Trade for Winslow

Feb 27, 2009 - On the first day of the NFL's 2009 free agency period, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired one of the league's rising offensive stars…without actually dipping into the free agent pool.

The Buccaneers acquired former Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow II on Friday, completing a late-morning trade by sending undisclosed draft picks to the Browns. The sixth overall pick in the 2004 draft, Winslow has had two 80-catch seasons in the last three years and is considered one of the most talented players at his position in the NFL.

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Great trade for Tampa Bay, not so good for Brady Quinn.

A 2nd and maybe a mid round pick I'm guessing.

Definitely not a first, that would be idiotic.

My Browns people tell me it's a 2nd in 09 and a sliding pick anywhere from 2nd to 5th in 2010 based on some benchmarks.

Outstanding move for the Browns that they got that much for a surly coach-killer with major injury issues. I'm not saying he's not a good player--very good at times--but I can tell you most of his former teammates are going to tip one back for their new GM tonight. His knee is one minor tweak away from being completely shot too. I'm kinda surprised the Bucs would deal for him when they are obviously in rebuild mode.

For the unitiated, Terry Pluto is the dean of Cleveland sports.

Yes, yes, and I just repsonded. Pluto's ABA book is a must-read for any basketball fan. I would also recommend "The Curse of Rocky Colavito" about the Indians.

Icness-

Is it confirmed as a 2nd this year and a 2-5 pick neck year depending on performance?

Or is it just a stict 2nd this year and 5th next year?

Rotoworld states that it's a 2nd this year and 5th next year only.

I wish the Packers would make some moves but it's not surprising nor a bad move to wait with so many important players becoming FA's next year.

Very talented TE. The Buccs got the better deal in my opinion.

I can't stand Winslow, the guy is baby. I think it's a good deal for the Browns.
