Jimmy Smith Busted for Drugs

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Apr 23, 2009 3:05 am

Former Jacksonville Jaguar superstar Jimmy Smith was arrested at a Jacksonville gas station this afternoon for possession of narcotics.

State troopers pulled over the 40-year-old for an unknown reason. Smith pulled into the gas station, where he was arrested. At some point during the incident, we're told Smith asked the officers if he could use the restroom. Officers obliged and escorted him into the gas station bathroom -- as you can see in the photo on the left.

Smith has a long history of substance abuse -- he was arrested for DUI back in August 2008 and was suspended by the NFL in 2003 for violating the substance abuse policy.

Smith made five straight Pro Bowls playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He finished his career seventh in NFL history with 862 catches and 11th in league history with 12,287 yards.

Doh. I really wish he had shown Reggie Williams and Matt Jones his WR skills, rather than his smokin weed skills.

Ever notice how these things are always so darkly glamorous when the guy's active and then just embarrassing when he's retired?

Eh, J-Smooth was caught with both cocaine and marijuana. Matt got the coke influence, Reggie got the MJ.

Interesting, a guy on ESPN was talking up the Holt signing, saying it was the first time Jags had a legit receiver since Jimmy Smith retired.

And that was the first time I remember hearing his name in a while. Then a day later this comes out.

Why is it so hard for former professional athletes to re-enter society? I don't mean this as racist, I mean this as common-sense, don't-smoke-crack, don't-beat-your-spouse, budget-your-money sensibility. Which doesn't seem to exist, at all. Is it really that hard?

My guess is it's because all their lives, they did nothing but play football. Once that is taken away from them, they really don't know what to do.

It's not racist. Look at Matt Jones.

BTW, I exist. You know what that means. (OMG, inside reference!!!!!!!)
