Tim resembles more a young Mark Brunell than he does Vick. Same character traits as Brunell, big and strong with good mobility (but not freakish like Vick), lefty with strong arm (Brunell was stronger though, IMO).

Maybe it's the Brunell of DC that's clouding my judgment but it's real hard to imagine Brunell with a strong arm.

It's definitely the Brunell of DC. He was pretty much done by the time Jacksonville let him go. Here's a highlight I found of Mark while with the Huskies.

I can't find any of him as a Jag, but there's a reason why Brunell at one time was considered to be the next Steve Young. Shame he suffered that knee injury against the Giants. He was never really the same after that.

I did find this nice write up on his arm strength/versatility and how he could have played baseball as a pitcher if he chose not to play football.

The Mark Brunell comparison is a good one.

I do think that he'll be able to make the transition to the NFL as a quarterback, but he will take a while. He may not make an impact immediately, but if he sticks with it and really learns to adjust his game he may be a solid late bloomer.

This speaks to the bigger picture here. this is the problem with spread option offenses now running rampant in the collegiate ranks. teams in the league look to USC for quarterbacks, for the most part due to the pro style offense we run. however, we have many here saying that a heisman trophy winner. a title winning quarterback. NEEDS EXTRA QUARTERBACK TRAINING?

"Meyer is working with Tebow a lot this offseason on fixing his slow mechanics and putting him in pro-style sets."

REALLY?

see, this is a guy who looks selfishly at his prospects for the here and now, but ZERO preparation for the future. how so? hes finally attempting to fix his slow mechanics and place him in pro style sets in his senior year? give me a break. these guys, including colt and the oklahoma quarterback, have no idea on how to come from under center, make reads, make the necessary checkdowns and go through regular progressions.

Warren Moon adjusted well. The spread isn't a new thing, it just encourages coaches to bench the QB for a year or three.

Matt Leinart sucks.

Starting off on the bench learning was a positive for Steve McNair's career. How many years did Moon spend up in the CFL before coming down here? man, as an Oilers fan I should know that!

Moon spent 6 years in Canada and won 5 Grey Cups. And had he been white he never would have had to go up north to make it. Thank God that has changed...

I like the Brunell comparison as well, better than my Vick one. Jags-era Brunell is probably Tebow's ceiling, and that's a pretty fine QB. His closest career comparisons are McNabb, Jim Kelly (minus the running) and Trent Green. Take away his last two seasons and Brunell has a higher QB rating than Marino, plus a better playoff winning rate (5-6 to Marino's 7-11).

Tebow is bigger by quite a bit. Brunell played in his prime at about 210 and stands barely 6'1". Tebow is 6'3" and plays at 235-240. Scouts have told me Tebow will "shatter" the weight room records at the next Combine. I'm very curious as to how much Urban Meyer tweaks things to help Tebow in NFL manners. You cannot make it in the NFL being a one-read QB. Look at Vince Young or Alex Smith or even Vick as a passer.

I know someone who is a Gator alumni who laughed at me when I raved about Brady Quinn's bench press (which was 24 times) during the combine. He said he's talked to people in campus and they said he can bench 450, if not higher. The staff has told him to slow down with weight lifting too much though, so I wonder if he still can. This was around Quinn's draft obviously, when I heard this comment.

In his freshman year, he said he didn't know what his max was because coaches didn't let him go past 450.

I agree. He has amazing work ethic, he loves football, he loves winning, and he's a great leader. It's hard to imagine that a guy like that can't make the adjustments necessary to become a good NFL quarterback. It may take him a few years of NFL level training, but he'll be a good player, and a big time steal in the draft since he'll probably go late.
