Cowboys Turned Down 'Significant Offer'
21st October, 2009 - 4:14 pm
ESPN - The Cowboys are saying that they turned down a "significant offer" prior to Tuesday's trade deadline.

"We had a significant offer for a key player that we turned down, and turned down in getting in more extended dialogue for," Jones told ESPN. "So we did have that kind of activity ... but I shouldn't name the player or the team. It was a very firm, significant offer for one of our young players that we had a chance for a lot of consideration if we had wanted to take it, and we didn't."

Jones admitted that the player involved in the trade was not a running back, adding that the Cowboys were offered at least one premium draft pick for the player

Which player was the topic? What was the deal?

Patriots offered first rounder for Ware? He is the only guy on that team that can be a part of "significant trade"
First the federal government borrowed money; then gave the money to Bank of America; then I borrowed some of that money from Bank of America and gave it to the federal government; then the federal government gave the money back to Bank of America.

Romo or Witten maybe?

I read a couple different places online that they were shopping the 1st round pick they got from the Raiders, and one of the possible targets was Shawn Merriman, maybe they tried the same offer for Ware as well.

Patriots were definitely shopping around. Nothing got done though. The ware idea isn't crazy.

Who in the hell would give a first round pick for Merriman at this point? Has he touched a quarterback this year?

Looks like Merriman might have to cycle back on, because he looks pretty bad out there from what I've seen. Ryan Clady was tearing him apart on MNF a week ago. Clady is a stud, but Merriman was embarrassed.

The only trade rumor I heard involving Dallas was Martellus Bennett to Miami for Philip Merling and a pick (don't know the pick value but assume 3rd-4th). Obviously nothing ever came of it. I know Dallas had interest in Tyler Thigpen at one point but MIA beat them to that punch.

I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. Merling plus a pick? I'm sold.
