I still have Lowry on that want list, your arguement is keep a 33 year old Abreu who is shaky because he helps the offense , my arguement if Abreu keeps having 0 fors w/ RISP his trade stock will just collapse before we get the chance to upgrade. I stand by what I say Sanchez and Lowry alone make this deal worth it.

Stop putting words in my mouth. My arguement is that Abreu and Melky is better than Thompson and Reese. The starting pitching is set because our 5 are Clemens, Pettitte, Wang, Moose, and Hughes. Rasner and Desalvo have shown they can fill in until Hughes and Clemens get back. Once they come back, if we had Lowry...he would be sent to the bullpen. Now if we're gonna trade an OF, wouldn't it make more sense to trade someone like Melky along with a young arm in the minors for Scott Linebrink??????? Abreu will be fine he is a professional hitter who will take pitches and make pitchers work. Something that is so undervalued because with the amount of pitches Damon, Jeter, and Giambi see. Pitchers will rarely last past the seventh, let alone sixth against us.

can you honestly tell me we're winning this year ? why not stack the future arms and get them in line it's called planning ahead.

You just don't get it, that is what we did with the Sheffield trade. We already have plenty of arms and the draft is less than a month away. You're just digging yourself a hole. We have the pieces in our system to trade for a proven arm out of the bullpen RIGHT NOW, which is what we need most. Not a 6th starter when we have plenty down in the minors that can be a fill in when needed. Especially when your 4th OF will become Thompson or Linden

who's putting words in your mouth you want to keep Abreu , I gave reasons why he should be traded. Why do the Padres want to trade for Melky and give up Linebrink ? please explain that before we go further

And my man listen to this

This is ridiculous. You think next year when clemens petitte and perhaps moose are gone or not reliable, we have a better chance to win? If anything when the young guys are plugged in it will be a transition year. Rivera might not even be here! This is the year we make a serious run. Signing Clemens proves that Cashman is not thinking like you at all. Im also discouraged at how fast some fans give up. Maybe I dont realize that there are few people that love the Yankees as much as I do.

This thread should be about what reliever can help us make it to the postseason and win a world series not about giving up on the season.

We have a stock of future arms. How can you say we're not winning this year based on a slow start riddled with injuries? We just picked up Clemens, Hughes will be back in 3/4 weeks, and Wang, Pettite, and recently Moose have been great for us. Defense you say? Our infield is pretty damn good defensively with Dougie Fresh in there. Posada is a cat. Our OF is AVERAGE without Melky and ABOVE AVERAGE when he's in there. Abreu has a great arm and a small area to cover. Damon tracks balls better than most and Matsui is average at best. We aren't terrible defensively.

IF we make a trade for a baseball player around May/June it better be for a young bullpen arm or else I'd like to see one of our young'ns come up and pitch out of the bullpen.

Sanchez and Lowry that's how I can say it.

Thompson and Reese that's how I say it.

No problem. Im just speaking the truth. In reality Cashman goes and gets Clemens for $4.5 mil a month, that shows that we are trying to win THIS year. It will be a long time until the yankees are in May and legitimately believe they have no shot at a world series. That will only happen if Dolans some how buy the yankees

Throwback is right. Next year, if anything, will most likely be a transition year for a few of our starters unless we pick up a nice starter over the offseason with MLB experience. Maybe your boy Lowry will get traded for. Who knows? I'm happy with the future of our franchis as well as our chances this year with the Rocket at the helm now.

I'd prefer for the Yankees not to make any moves for Melky now that Roger has signed. I don't think Melky will become anything more than a 4th outfielder in the long run, but we do need a good 4th outfielder with our aging outfield.

As for trading for more pitching prospects or projects, I'm not interested. Sanchez is a project, I'm not interested in that. Melky is more valuable than a reliever who can't strike anybody out and walks his fair share of batters. I think we have enough depth in our minor league system that we don't need to be taking chances on guys like Jonathan Sanchez unless they get released...like Brian Bruney was.

I found this in the FIRE JOE TORRE thread NYKnstill started....

NYKnSTILL! wrote: And I also believe Giambi is a waste if he doesn't homer he does nothing , the team runs on 5 bats Jetes, Alex, Bobby, Robi, Georgy and that's all.

Funny how the fire Joe Torre talk has settled down since our pitching started getting healthier and we started winning.
