I still think that this whole sh**storm is a major positive for the Redskins in the long term. Mike Shanahan has taken over the franchise and is making all the football decisions. That's a serious change and cultural shift away from Dan Snyder's way of doing business. Trust me, Haynesworth won't win this battle like he rolled over Jim Zorn. This sends a signal to the rest of teh league that the Ethnic Slurs must once again be taken seriously. It might cost them a playoff berth this season if Big Al decides to withhold his A game--and he might--but the team is better for it.

As for his long-term future, he has Oakland Raider written all over him. But it will be interesting to see what happens in Chicago, which is a perfect fit schematically if Lovie Smith/Jerry Angelo somehow survives, but could also be the centerpiece of a quick-fix for an antsy new coach and GM.

It means that Washington will be a team, not a collection of high-priced individuals. The last few years you could always count on Washington self-destructing a few times. Shanahan won't tolerate that and he's letting the rest of his team know that by how he's handling Haynesworth. It also makes them attractive to different sorts of free agents--instead of just getting guys that want big paydays, now they're in the mix for ring-chasing veterans of consequence. That's the difference between getting Antwan Randle El and getting Anquan Boldin.

I must admit, I thought Shanny was going to break, but he hasn't and I'm happy he hasn't. This team needs a general. We had that with Marty back in 2000 but Snyder didn't know any better.

I agree with Icness and Rafael. This team needs a leader to make the big decisions and establish a personality for this team. Shanahan has a plan in place and he's making moves to put the team that he wants on the field, and he's setting that personality for the team as a team that works hard and plays together, rather than being all about egos.
