Marty Schottenheimer is perhaps the classiest guy around and even he took some shots at AJ Smith on Sirius last week. If you can't work with Marty, the problem isn't Marty.

Some of the offers I heard, one of which I can confirm from two sources:
--Minny offered a 2nd rounder and a choice of one of 3 different young defenders, one of which is Asher Allen. I've heard they made some other overtures as well but IDK the specs.
--Cleveland offered Brian Robiskie and a conditional pick between 2nd and 4th.
--Carolina offered a 2011 1st but wanted SD to handle the contract details so they (CAR) wouldn't have to pay the full bonus. Considering the Panthers' struggles, that's probably a top 8 pick.

The only thing I've heard as to why Smith wasn't more receptive is that he felt like giving in to Jackson's trade demands would only encourage Marcus McNeill to do the same. That's not a bad rationale but it doesn't help them win football games this year.

No way VJ has more value than Brandon Marshall.

McNeill signed his tender today. He will be available to play against the Rams next month, per Adam Schefter.
