With the way Smith played last year I can't really see them going out and replacing him now.

But if the thing is Manning came to the niners and said to harbaugh He wanted to play for the NIners you think Harbaugh would turn him away b/c they have Alex Smith lol I cant see that happening

The 49ers would be a good fit,but I agree Jim does like Smith..Personally i think Smith limits them offensively...I still see him with the Jets, who have pretty good weapons and a better Defense than Manning has ever had.

I dont see why he should just retire if he's healthy..He's one of the best QB's in the league (arguably the best)...a Big IF,,,but if he can comeback completely healthy, He should join a team with a Defense and weapons in place...For all of their problems the Jets have Keller, Santanio, Plaxico and a Defense....Arizona and Washington make no sense to me... The 49ers I can see that as well, It all depends on thier faith in Alex...Denver I question... I know they have Thomas and Decker,,but i still have questions about thier team.

Well, now that he's announced that he's willing to go elsewhere for a salary with a low base and more pay via incentives, all signs point to the fact he's a) not retiring and b) probably going elsewhere considering he didn't give the same option to the Colts.

On his wish list would be a team with:
-decent to good run support
-a good defense
-a subpar QB that isn't one who is considered to be a young/raw prospect
-a team that can make the postseason today.

One team that has not been mentioned is Baltimore. Excellent D and run support. A play away from the Super Bowl. Flacco is decent but nothing more than an average QB. His former head coach (who prior to that was his QB coach) is now the QB coach of the Ravens. Coincidence? His career timeline for competing for a championship (next couple of years) aligns well with those of the current name players in Baltimore (Lewis and Reed). Lewis has said he'll be back. Reed says he's 50-50. If Manning plays for Baltimore, don't you think Reed is pretty much guaranteed to return? Probably at a lower cap hit too, as he knows he'll probably be given a year or two to contend.

My hunch is he'll either be a Jet or a Raven next year.

I'm surprised the Titans and Seahawks haven't been mentioned more as possibilities. I would love to see him in Seattle with that crowd and Pete Carroll. TEN would have the college connection, and like Seattle have a solid enough team that a Peyton if he's good can lead to 11 Ws+

Agree with Seattle as a darkhorse candidate. The issue with TEN is that their running game is awful and their run D is poor too. In Indy Manning has been handcuffed so many times by a run D that couldn't get him the ball back to mount comebacks. That wouldn't be appealing to him. The college connection may win out, but I kind of doubt it matters as much to him as setting himself up for a couple of title shots.

Many teams would benefit with Manning as QB. Manning will look for a solid team with a shot at winning it all. He is not going to sign with a rebuilder or a so, so group. If he is healthy, he has four to six years to play well. The perfect teams for him, to me would be the Jets, the 49ers, and if he really wanted to stick it to Indianapolis it would be the Texans, I'm not sure the Texans would pay that much, for Manning but that team has the D and offensive weapons. I thought of Chicago, Denver and Oakland as also in the chase.

When he gets cut, it will get interesting.

Completely agree that Manning would make almost every team in the league better. I think the problem with finding a fit is that many of the better teams have QBs they wouldn't want to part with. The upside either isn't there, or they're banking on a younger QB emerging over the next couple of years: Pats, Steelers, Giants, Packers, and Saints being the obvious nos.

Stafford in DET and Ryan in ATL aren't guys you give up on for an aging great.
Schaub, Rivers, and Romo aren't the biggest problems associated with getting their teams to the next level in HOU, SD, and DAL either.
Vick and Cutler in PHI and CHI? You could roll the dice and spend the money on Manning.

Sanchez, Flacco, Smith, Tebow, or Moore? I think you definitely do it...unless the front office has an unhealthy overappreciation for any of these guys. Those are teams that get the most bang for their buck that could be 12 or 13 win teams with an effective P Manning.

It sounds like Washington is going to make a big play. Go figure...

great, now we get to have 2 "manning bowls" shoved down our throats by espn for a couple of years.

can't imagine the media hype if one of them has a shot at dashing the playoff hopes of the other.

Hope the Jets. Therefore, you might have a Manning vs Manning Super Bowl, Giants Vs. Jets, in New York (in 2 years I think).
