"Jaws Dropped" from MNF

Post#1 » by BIGGIEsmalls 23 » Wed Feb 15, 2012 10:36 pm

Ron Jaworski is out at "Monday Night Football."

ESPN announced Wednesday that the analyst would be removed from the network's signature broadcast beginning in August. Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden will operate as a two-man booth.
Jaworski will remain at the network and appear on various programs, including "Countdown" and "Matchup."

The longtime ESPN analyst had been in the MNF booth since 2007, replacing Joe Theismann after one season. He was supposed to add a respected football voice to a broadcast that included Tony Kornheiser. He dutifully played that role for two years until Jon Gruden was brought in as Kornheiser's replacement. It was all downhill from there.

It's a shame. He's the only one I've been able to somewhat tolerate out of any of the primetime color guys.

Totally agree with Schwab. He was probably the best of the worst.

IMO, he was ok. I'm looking forward to a two-man booth, though. It's gonna give the games a more old school feel. Sometimes, the three-man crews would kinda distract me from full enjoyment of a MNF game.

Less is better sometimes.

Didnt care for Jaws. Nothing personal I just thought him and Gruden were redundant, as they both had the same exact voice and said the same things. I could never tell which one it was talking. At least this will make fora clearer broadcast.

Never understood the 3 man booth anyways. 1 announcer, 1 color analyst is the perfect formula in all sports. More than that it just get too confusing to follow.

Gruden's great. Wouldn't mind someone other than Tirico calling the game though. After hearing him on NBA games all the time, its too much already with him doing football too.

I agree with this.

I felt that jaws was over the top too much.

I'm with you there. I can't stand Gruden fawning over every mediocre play like Jenna Jameson just went under the table. Jaws wears thin after awhile but I preferred him. I almost always listen to the radio feed, Boomer Esiason and Kevin Harlan are pretty solid. At least I think they do MNF radio, maybe that's Sunday night. Get me out of season and I can't think straight...

A step in the right direction.

Worst thing they could've done, but really it's all moot until they get rid of Gruden, he is intolerable.

I like Jaws but he is vulnerable to saying dumb stuff on the fly during games. His strengths are better suited to a studio role. And they really do need someone to balance out the stupid from the likes of Schlereth and Bruschi.
