Apparently Brandon's wife got hit in the face by a bottle

Bad, but not as bad as Schefter was making me believe by keeping the info top secret

Thanks for the info

^^^^^^^^^Yea, I read it earlier. That story is a lot different than the version his attorney gave. Always two sides to a story with the truth being somewhere in the middle  .

That being said, he's the star athlete, so he's the one that everyone will accuse of doing the punching because of potential monetary gain via lawsuits. I'm not saying that this version is incorrect, but it's typical of what happens to pro athletes with bad reputations.

Regarding the Bears. I have little doubt that Cutler, Lovie, & Emory were all aware of this before they pulled the trigger on this trade. I don't believe that it shook them one bit. He was still the BEST option of getting a franchise WR. Bowe was franchised, Colsten re-signed with the Saints, & V-Jax was overpaid. Add in that Cutler is his buddy, Jeremy Bates will again be his coach, & it only costs two 3rd rd picks. It equals to a no-brainer from the Bears perspective.

EDIT:
In a statement, Bears general manager Phil Emery said the team was aware of the alleged incident when it obtained Marshall from the Miami Dolphins.

"Both the Bears and Dolphins were aware of what occurred over the weekend. We decided to move forward with the trade. We have high expectations for Brandon as a Bear," Emery said.

I"m sure that everything will work itself out. Not a big deal, IMHO.

According to Hub Arkush of PFW if Marshall is found guilty of violating his personal conduct clause in his contract the minimum suspension is 6 games. Because of his history he coudl get a full year. He can be found guilty of that even if not found guilty in a court of law...ask Big Ben.

Who would be the one implementing the suspension? The Bears, right?

Woah. Crazy news.

Bears knew this going in right? That's why he was semi-cheap?

Dolphins knew about it before they made the trade. Still unclear if the Bears did. Would be a little messed up, though.

I posted this above on this page.

Guess the Bears really needed a receiver. Personally, I don't think the incident itself was that bad. I just don't like how he's constantly putting himself in position to get in trouble.

I can give him a pass on this one if he was protecting his wife. I would do the same if someone harmed my wife and/or kids.

I don't think it's a bad thing for a young married couple to go out & enjoy themselves.

 It seems like Cutler agrees with you.

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said Wednesday he couldn't be more excited about reuniting with receiver Brandon Marshall, and Cutler said he's confident Marshall will stay out of trouble, despite being accused of hitting a woman in a New York City nightclub over the weekend.

"I talked to Brandon yesterday, and I think he was bummed about it, the perception and everything, of him getting to Chicago and that being over his head," Cutler said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "Let's not judge him quite yet.

"I know he has a checkered past and Brandon is the first one to stand up and admit to that. But I know deep down he's a good guy. He made some mistakes. but going forward I see nothing but bright things for the guy."

Cutler said his "sole mission" will be to keep Marshall out of nightclubs at 4 a.m.

"He doesn't really go to the clubs at 4 am., I don't know how this stuff happens to him," Cutler said. "It just does sometimes.

"He'll be fine. I'm fully confident in saying that."

The Bears released a statement that they knew about the incident before trading two third-round draft picks to the Miami Dolphins for Marshall, but a source told ESPN.com NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the Bears didn't know the exact details or that Marshall was being investigated by the police.

"If there's one thing we know about (new GM) Phil Emery, he's a detail guy and is going to get to the bottom of every situation," Cutler said. "I find it very hard to believe he'd pull the trigger on this knowing that something wrong happened and Brandon was at fault."

Cutler was asked if he knew any details of the incident.

"I've got a good idea," he said. "Obviously I wasn't there, but like I said, it's all going to play out.

"I'm super excited to get him. It's unfortunate that this came out when it did. We don't want to paint a bad picture of Brandon Marshall. Does he have a record of stuff in the past? Absolutely, but I know him as a person, not only as a player, and he truly is a good guy. We got a good teammate and we got a heck of a player."

Cutler and Marshall enjoyed two statistically successful seasons with the Denver Broncos during which Marshall caught over 100 passes for over 1,200 yards in 2007 and '08.

After Cutler was traded to the Bears before the '09 season, Marshall seemed to grow increasingly despondent in Denver. He once was filmed during practice kicking a football instead of running with his teammates. He vowed he wasn't trying to force a trade, but he was later dealt to to the Dolphins.

He was involved in an incident in April, 2011 when he was stabbed in the abdomen by his wife, who claimed it was in self defense. She was arrested, but charges were later dropped.

Marshall admitted in August, 2011 that he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

Cutler said Bears fans should be confident Marshall will not be involved in any incidents that will keep him off the field.

"I have no doubt in my mind," Cutler said. "We've remained close, we're going to get even closer now that he's back with us as a Bear. I'm going to keep every eye I have on him, making sure he's doing the right thing.

"That's not a problem with Brandon right now. He's matured. He wants to do the right thing. It's just a shame that his past still haunts him, but that's what happens, everyone makes mistakes. Brandon is still learning from them and growing, and like I said, we have a heck of a guy, a heck of a player and I think Phil made quite a splash on Day 1 (of free agency)."

I think it's safe to assume that the majority realize the negative things that Marshall brings (on the field and mostly off), but I like this for Chicago, and I hope it works out for all parties involved. I prefer to not hear about Marshall's negative side throughout the entire season.
