Sending a message. This way, Players cannot gripe that they get hammered and the Teams/Coaches get by with things. Roger is making it known he will crush you if you damage the Shield.

i dont really understand the suspension for a gm, cant he just keep doing his job on the dl? why not get rid of him right now so he misses the draft or cause him to miss this and the next free agency period?

Sorry but Goodell isn't the hypocrite here.

It's the players and their union that used the claims of player safety against an 18-game season, and yet it's the players that have this bounty system trying to hurt one another for a prize.

I'm still in the camp that believes the punishment should have been much more severe.

Gregg Williams should be banned for life.

I dont like the punishment of Sean Payton at all. 1 year? Too much imo... 8 games would have been more than enough.

Lie to and willingly defy Roger Goodell at your peril.

I fully support Goodell on this one. I'm pleasantly surprised the punishments are so severe.

But the Pats did not lose their Head Coach for an entire year. That is going to kill the Saints season.

The NO 1st is #27 and belongs to the Patriots. So NO has no 1st or 2nd this year, and no 2nd next year.

Except when it comes to maximizing the NFL's profitability, attracting new fans, increasing fan approval, global growth, cleaning up the crappy system of rules and officiating, and everything else that he is supposed to be doing to make the game better. He's the worst Commissioner of all the 4 major sports IMO, which is saying a lot because I have a really, really, really low opinion of Bud Selig.

I actually have no stance on whether the punishment was too much or too little since I can't see the evidence, so not sure how he can truly be evaluated here on this particular issue.

^^LOL @ worse commissioner of all 4 sports.

Wow. Totally shocked. Payton out for the YEAR - definitely didn't see that coming. To those saying: "Pats lost a 1st round pick, wtf?" Imagine if Belichick sat out the whole year in '08, GTFOH.

Saints punishment was just right.

The gm banning is weird. Especially the timing. 8 games? What's a gm gonna do in those 8 games that's so crucial? Draft would have been better. Might as well just kept suspension away and given him a bigger fine.
