I'm ecstatic over the return of 30 for 30. I recorded this one last night; can't wait to get to it.

Some of the guys I don't feel sorry for at all, but Bernie Kosar jeez I don't know how that guy is still sane.

Half the guys that went broke seemed to be bragging about it. But I felt SOOOooo bad for Bernie.

Re: 30 FOR 30 "Broke"
Andre Rison came off as a huge douche. The sunglasses he wore during his interview did it for me.

Yeah pretty sad, your dad takes your money and your daughter is a porn star. That's enough for me to visit my basement with a rope.

Re: 30 FOR 30 "Broke"
Finally got around to watching it this afternoon. It was funny and sad and everything in between. I have the same feelings about Bernie Kosar, his life has been so f*cked since the day he got drafted.
Also, cosign on Andre Rison being an enormous dickwad. I didn't feel bad about anything that happened, or is happening to him.
And some people get annoyed by Herm Edwards, but I love the guy. If I could have the same kind of enthusiasm for life and teaching people like him, everything would be more entertaining.

Re: 30 FOR 30 "Broke"
Bernie is a sad case indeed. The irony is that he's one of the smartest guys ever to play football, he just had so many things go wrong. He's a terrible game commentator though.
Andre Rison is just awful. Nobody liked him even when he was active, total selfish pariah.

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Re: 30 FOR 30 "Broke"
If I had a daughter I would be proud that she was attractive enough to make it into porn. I wouldn't judge that as a terrible thing, that's her life and her choice and her dream. I'd feel offended if she thought I was a bad person because I like business and politics and football, well tough luck I can't help what I like and what I'm into, and I would hope my daughter would unconditionally love and support me on my choices of interest and occupation, just as I would do for her, and the porn industry is cool and exciting and a great choice for somebody who is very comfortable with that. I like pretty girls a lot but I sure wouldn't want to be a porn actor even if tempted for a moment, it's just not for me, but if it's for her then fantastic.
Plus she probably has lots of hot friends that she could hook him up with and I thought he was divorced and single. What a great high paying job for her and an opportunity for him to meet exciting members of the opposite sex. That's great. I didn't see the Broke special yet, but I do remember hearing the Kosar story a long time ago, and with all due respect to Kosar, it seems to me from my memory that he only lost his money because of his incessant greed to make many more millions on top of the millions he had, and it was his fault for losing it.
I could be wrong since admittedly it has been several years since I saw that interview of his, so I need to see the Broke show as a refresher to determine if he deserves any sympathy. I'm just sick of people making excuses and feeling sorry for irresponsible millionaires. Quite frankly the only reason I haven't seen the show yet is it's a sad and sickening subject matter that hasn't hit my priority list. I don't respect people that aren't responsible with great power and opportunity.

Ok I saw the show which said nothing much about Kosar, but I have seen a long interview with him in years past and did more research on this. Yes he did lose all of his money because of awful decisions that he's responsible for. He's not a victim nor should he have sympathy for losing what he has lost. His daughter is doing well with a great job and he himself has had a great job still in football for years despite having lost everything, so there's nothing to worry about with this guy.
He was a greedy person that went to ridiculous lengths in very shady and questionable businesses for no logical reason other that trying to hit some uber level of wealth, why, for no reason other than a lust for greed and power. He had nothing he really needed to accomplish except self-serving goals, and he lost it all by making dumb high risk gambles in very poor investment outlets. Yet he is still VERY wealthy relative to most people and has nothing much to worry about. He's not broke despite the fact he could have been much richer if he wasn't very stupid and irresponsible and fueled by seemingly distasteful motivations.
He is a very lucky guy that has more money than he truly deserves at this point. It's only sad to me that money gets to land in possession of a guy like this at an expense of poorer folks that work much harder and more diligently and more respectably than he has in his lifetime. He got better than what he deserves for how he approached his life and handled his vast fortune that he never truly earned in the first place.

I thought "Broke" was a bit too glossy (would've preferred just telling us the stories of the players more), but the 2nd doc 9.79* is totally brilliant IMO

Yeah it was pretty unwatchable, especially for somebody who records stuff and then wants to manage how they view it. It was very choppy. People who produce TV shows don't really design shows for max watch-ability in replay as the ratings are based upon those that watch it in real-time. Well they can measure those who watch programs with a DVR, but there's some complications in trying to analyze and understand those habits. The people who make the shows are prioritizing their editing structure with typically old-school perspectives.
I used to date a girl who was a Nielsen representative and she got pissed when I didn't appreciate the full science behind the system of how they manage it. She took her job very seriously and acted like she was a detective/scientist in examining candidate households before setting them up and getting the wrong type of audiences as part of the mix. I asked if I could be a Nielsen family and she gave me like 5 reasons why I couldn't possibly qualify. Basically I didn't watch TV the right way. It's apparently very high level stuff.
