Re: Week 9 Thread
Eagles D is complete mess at the moment. Jim Johnson probably is rolling non-stop in his grave since the season started.
Vick should accept a trade and start fresh somewhere else, with a competent O-line.

Re: Week 9 Thread
That play changes things a bit. Sometimes I wonder if the Saints only have 10 defenders on the field.

Re: Week 9 Thread
yewwwwwwww. let's go Eagles. 2 BIG plays on d and special teams. let's see what they can do in the red zone.
EDIT: absolutely nothing. that sack was ridiculous. Gruden nailed it; either throw it away or audible.

Why don't the Eagles run the ball in the red zone?

Re: Week 9 Thread
Ah man why did that have to be a forward pass?
BTW been watching the game on mute and MNF has actually been enjoyable.

One of the coolest plays I've ever seen. And it had to be not allowed

Re: Week 9 Thread
Vick should just lineup in the shotgun 15 yards behind the line since that O line can't block anything.

Re: Week 9 Thread
Or they should stop trying to go 5 wide with a QB who can't make quick reads, doesn't know what he's doing pre-snap, and with a line that can't block a 3 man rush let alone a 6 man one. You have three dynamic playmakers in McCoy, Jackson, and Maclin. Go max protect and get the ball in their hands.
For those who know -- who calls the plays, Vick or Reid? In either case, I put a ton of blame on coaching. If Vick is calling plays, then it's on the coaching staff to take those decisions out of his hands. If it's Reid, then they're consistently setting up Vick for failure.

It's not about the total rushing yards, or how many carries. It's the situations where they (predictably) abandon the run that Eagles fans are always crying about.
Example, first and goal, 3 straight passes. Reporters asked Andy after the game if he considered running the ball. "No."
The Eagles had 4 first and goals. They got 6 points out of that, the Saints got 7.

Andy's offensive philosophy is broken. If you just look at the stats you may not think so, but it goes way deeper than that.

Well, they say that Reid handed over play calling duties to Marty Mornhinweg a few seasons ago. It's hard to say exactly who's calling them since there's been no change in the philosophy.
Either way I don't think Vick is calling them... and either way they suck.

Re: Week 9 Thread
From what I can tell they took the play calling out of Vick's hands last season. And Marty does all of it now.

Re: Week 9 Thread
It doesnt seem like Vick ever changes the play at the line based on blitzes/coverages like the other veteran QB's do, just lines up and snaps it

Re: Week 9 Thread
A few of Shady's big runs were from Vick seeing the blitz and calling an audible. But other than that he is really horrible at calling plays.

Huh? I don't think I've ever heard anyone on the team or in the press suggest that Vick was ever in charge of play calling, aside from the occasional audible that you mentioned

Re: Week 9 Thread
I think Marty calls the vast majority of the plays under Reid's guidance. Reid (like most every head coach) has final authority, so if he wants a G-power run to the strong side on 2nd and 9, that's the play that gets run, period. But Reid doesn't seem to be interfering much, and the play I used is probably a bad example because I'm not sure the Eagles know what a G-power is or how to block for it.
Vick has some power to check based on his pre-snap read. I do not know if this is still true but when Vick was in Atlanta, Dan Reeves made a huge emphasis of getting the plays in quickly and getting to the line quick so they could help Vick in reading the D. They would have the WR on their bench side of the field signal if Vick needed to audible. Vick had enough command of the offense and how to audible that it worked, he just struggled knowing when to audible.

Don't think you need to go pass tense. He looked clueless on Monday night from what I saw (though, your more experienced eye may be more generous than mine).

Too bad I didn't bet any money on the games. Go Eagles!
In straight pick em games or with point spreads?
Straight pick'em, I don't mess around with point spreads.
Too bad my favorite team let me down and lost again for the 5th straight game. Still got 8 weeks to predict that perfect week.

Nah, I basically agree with you. I think Vick gets slammed too hard for things that are out of his control (bad OL, receivers freelancing, overall game planning) but reading defenses has never been a strength of his. Never will be either.
