Who wins Defensive Player of the Year?

Post#1 » by gswhoops » Fri Nov 30, 2012 4:05 pm

Thought this deserved its own thread, since there are a lot of good candidates.

Anyway, my money's on Watt.

This is one of the best DPOTY races ever, if not the best. I can't eve recall four guys having a legit shot.

I love Tillman, he's always been one of my favorite players in the league, but my vote goes to Watt. Just an absolute monster.

I said this in the MVP thread, but I think it's insane that Miller, Smith and Watt are all only in their second year...they're going to be on top for a long, long time.

Yep.

The NFL is an offense driven league now, the only chance on defense is you get athletic freaks like Miller, Smith, and Watt who can terrorize opposing O-Linemen who can't match their pure talent.

Funny thing about Aldon Smith is, and I don't mean this as a shot, at all,, but I think he's about the 4th or 5th best defensive player on his own team at this point.

Tillman is my pick. 4 FF in one game? How much better can you get?

7 forced fumbles on the season and 2 pick-6s. He's a turnover monster.

And lining up behind Justin Smith helps that sack total too.

....And he's quietly turned into one of the better shut-down Corners in the league, while tackling like a Linebacker.

After 11 games my ballot would look like this:
1. Watt
2. Miller
3. Jennings
4. A. Smith
5. John Abraham
6. Tillman
7. Ware
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

I'd pick Tillman but you really can't go wrong. Hopefully this makes the league wise up about its de facto "MVP must be either a QB or RB" rule.

Watt's passes defense numbers are in CB territory, that's ridiculous.

It's hard to say how good Aldon would be if he had to play in a different system, since he's basically in a position to do what he does best all the time with Justin eating up blockers and Willis/Bowman roaming the middle.

Even as a 49ers fan I don't think he should be DPOY, but I do think he's the best pass rusher in the league.
