Gwynn's better than Gross and Gross needs some work. This move by Melvin just puzzles me.

WTF. I hope this means gross and mench are going to be traded. If not Gwynn is playing way better then both mench and gross.

Sigh. Hope he plays well enough for them not to sour on him. Mench rides the pine for weeks on end, such dead weight. Right handed stick aside, he's worthless.

Gwynn is just way over-rated because of Daddy....over the last 4 weeks pitchers have been knocking the bat out of his lil hands with inside stuff and he is not good enough to turn on it at this point.....although not a big Gross fan, he is a vet on a very young team.....Gwynn needs to work on alot and MUST get stronger...just to weak.

Good choice

There's no reason for this. He's proven he can perform in triple A. He just needs to get on a roll and get in the lineup consistently. I don't agree with this move at all.

in those 4 weeks, he has had about 24 AB's tough. I like the fact that he will get consistent AB's and going back to riding buses and smaller food allowances should help remotivate him but getting 24 AB's since May 25th when he really started batting worse did not help him at all either. Starters will get 24 AB's in a week without much problem and those consistent AB's help keep them consistent. I think Gwynn was Yosted personally.

Yeah and the first 5 weeks of the season when he had 32 AB's and hit .406 everyone was on his jock saying that he was the future CF'er and how he should be starting, well he did start for a time which took time away from Corey Hart which is looking like a really stupid move by Yost.

He has? You could've fooled me. He spent one year in AAA which was last year, he hit .300 with a .360 OBP and a pathetic .396 SLG%. Now if you're going to have a .396 SLG% fine but you better be able to get on base better than a .360 clip. And this isn't even the majors we're talking about this is minor league ball.

He didn't do well making contact either with 84 strikeouts in 447 AB's and only 42 walks to go along with it.

I completely agree with xTitan on this. If his name was Tony Jones we wouldn't be talking about him as a future leadoff hitter.

I don't understand the logic. Gwynn has a better OPS than Gross, strikes out less, and is a better baserunner and a better outfielder. The only thing Gross adds is more power, which is probably the last thing we need right now. Can Gwynn benefit from being sent down...yeah, maybe a bit. But's he is 24, which is around the age you would expect him to get to the show. Keep him up and use him as a pinch runner...or start him from time to time. He is far more useful to this roster than Gross is.

gwynn is better as a pinch runner/defender/base-stealer, which makes perfect sense to why he gets sent down. gross has more power, and we all know the brewers ain't about small ball. the best i can work this out is that in aaa, gwynn gets to play every day, something that will benefit him at his age (not gross) and he can't get with the brewers right now, and if you're not playing him why not let him play somewhere else? and gross can get a little bit of a showcase before a possible trade--we all agree that at least one of our outfielders has to go, right? this tells me it's NOT going to be gwynn--eventually i think they see hall in left and gwynn in center...though matt laporta will probably tear through the ranks.

Sending Gwynn down was a nobrainer

He's of little use to the big league club and if he ever wants to become an everyday big leaguer,he needs to improve as a hitter. That won't happen in Milwaukee this year,he needs to tear up AAA.If he can't,he's destined for a career as a 4th OF

I feel the exact opposite. They're sending Gwynn down to showcase him for a trade. I mean, come on, how many more at-bats will Gross need for teams to get a beat on him. He's not that young, or that inexperienced. Gwynn is being sent down to get at-bats so he will get traded. His numbers down in AAA will probably be very good, and that'll make him more attractive trade bait.
