Best and worst announcers

Post#1 » by Celtsfan1980 » Sun Mar 29, 2015 11:35 pm

As one who has no idea what makes some announcers good and others not, who are the best and worst?

I like Troy Aikman a lot as a color commentator. He's smart, explains things well, and isn't biased.

For Play by Play it can't be anyone but Al Michaels. Guy is the best. GOAT status.

For worst...pretty much everyone on CBS. Dan Dierdorf probably the worst of the worst, guy puts me to sleep everytime.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Best: I like Al Michaels, Kevin Harlan, Bob Pappa for play by play. Color I like Collinsworth, Brady Quinn (really), Aikman.

Worst: Gus Johnson. He makes me mute the game immediately. Worst color guy is Tim Ryan

I might have a bit of bias, but Larry McCarren and Wayne Larrivee in Green Bay are about as good as it gets on the radio for locals. The only gripe...and it's minute, is that they can get so excited about 'football' plays, if you're just tuning in during one of those moments, it's generally difficult to discern which team is creating the play. You have to self filter the crowd noise and know who's the home team to know which expletives to start casting.

Jon Gruden is the worst. I can't stand his voice or his stupid hand-wavy motions when he's on camera. I'm going to be so happy when he gets another coaching job and leaves the booth.

Bob Pappa and Mike Mayock were my favorite team, really disappointed to see them replaced on Thursday night with another dose of Nantz and Simms.

I enjoy Collinsworth and Michaels.

I do not care for Buck and Aikman, I think Troy has gotten hit in the head too many times, he's obvious like John Madden used to be but without any of the Madden charm.

All time favorites were Pat Summeral and Tom Brookshire growing up. Loved it when Summeral later teamed up with John Madden for many years. Today I really like Chris Collinsworth. All time greatest: Frank Gifford, Don Meredith and Howard Cosell. All time worse, easily Dennis Miller.

Collinsworth and Michaels are the best and Joe Buck should be fired on national television and forced to do a walk of shame with a camera following him to the bus stop because the network had his car towed.
