What is your best offer for Calvin Johnson?

Post#1 » by orlandomanic » Sun Oct 11, 2015 11:24 pm

It seems like it has come to a point where it would be beneficial for both sides to split ways...

Loins are far from being a playoff team and Calvin is still in his 30s and could give another team 3 or 4 more good years.

He has a cap hit over $24 million next year, over $21M in 2017. You really want your team to take that on?

i understand that contract size is a very important consideration, but didn't guys like Peyton Manning, and Ndamukong Suh switch teams and still have huge contracts?

I know that Calvin is no where near the same level as Randy Moss, but didn't Moss have a huge contract and still was traded?

Just of the top of my head....

Brandon Carr and a 3rd round pick for Calvin

I think Jerry Jones is crazy enough to make such a trade, because you know Jerry loves big names.

he has a big contract for his position but still only makes half of calvin's salary. i am not a cap expert but dez bryant's deal kicks in next year and they had to get rid of their record breaking running back to sign him, so i very much doubt they'll have extra 12 million in cap space lying around.

there is also the fact carr not even worth half that money and no team would trade for him with that salary.

Carr's contract expires in 2016 or 2017

Calvin's contract expires in 2020

Carr's cap hit is $14 million (not half)

yeah sorry 58.3 percent, not half. and that makes it worse, nobody is trading for a 30 year old mediocre player making 14 million.

Most teams don't really give away premium draft picks anymore. If Vinny Cerrato ran the Redskins we would for sure be offering up at least one first rounder if not more. Even the Raiders are fairly well run now.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Trading Calvin is damn near impossible...but if we're going to talk hypotheticals then I'll go ahead and propose the idea of Calvin playing in New England. I for one would love to see if Calvin could outdo Moss' production from 2007-09. I still think he's got some juice left in him given the right fit.

If they can restructure his contract, I'd give a second rounder and maybe a fifth rounder. If they have any regard for Justin Forsett, I would let him go in a second if that could save us some draft stock in the trade. The Lions seem to always be reaching for a RB.
