Cubs Vs Phillies 7/30/07 Game Thread (Game 104 of 162)

Post#1 » by GYBE » Sun Jul 29, 2007 11:33 pm

The first in a 4-game set against the Phillies at Wrigley Field.

Game starts at 7:05 EST / 6:05 CST

Ted Lilly

Cole Hamels

Hamels has an amazing change-up and is one of the better young pitchers in baseball with an incredible amount of K's. But the Cubs play well against good pitchers, I'm expecting the new and improved D-Lee and the rest of the gang to light him up.

The Brewers have an off day tomorrow to think about their terrible play as of late. With a win, for the first time since Opening Day, the Cubs would have a share of 1st place and the Central division.

LOL At the Brewers.
By the way the game starts at 6:05 CST not 8:05.
Keep the streak going!

My work schedule likes all these night games.

My girlfriend does not.

this series is so important it's not even a joke. This is our time to prove if we're the real deal. We're going to see the real cubs in this series and the mets series.. Pretenders or contenders!

I think we are going to take 2/4 in this series because we just don't have the right pitching matchups.
Lilly, Hill, Marquis, Marshall in the Phillies Series
Zambrano, Lilly, Hill in the Mets series.

Marshall has been on target.. we all know marquis is an automatic loss unless he gets it together like he did against that one game against milwaukee. it's a toss up this series.. im prediction we're only going to win 1 game.. and that is the marshall game..

Tip to those folks going to Wednesday's game and sitting in the bleachers:
Bring a glove because Marquis is a home run pitcher.

We could do a lot worse with our 5th starter than Marquis. We just played the Reds, and going by stats this year Marquis would be their second best starter. Before that we played the Cardinals, and every starter in their rotation has a higher ERA than Marquis.

We're pretty lucky to have a guy who eats up innings with a 4.20 ERA as our worst SP.

Cubs TV broadcaster Bob Brenly, a former World Series-winning manager, has been considered a potential candidate for the Reds' managing job since Jerry Narron was fired last month. But even with Brenly in Cincinnati with the Cubs over the weekend, the Reds didn't contact him, and his efforts to touch base informally with Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky were unsuccessful.

So Lee now has 3 homers in 4 days (5 HRs in last 8 games), I hope this trend continues. :D

(I was just thinking to myself the other day how key it would be for Lee to get real hot right about now)
